Hello,
I've just bought a new Edimax BR-6104K and tried to set up my Internet connection through it but I couldn't following the instructions in the manual and in the quick installation guide.
My Internet is a PPPoE broadband connection but I don't have a modem installed.
I have a Windows XP station with 2 network interface cards that shared the Internet connection to my other PCs.
In addition to the configurations of the 2 NICs I have set a 3rd broadband connection with data supplied by the ISP (login, password, service name).
In 'Network Connections' it appears as [Type] 'broadband' and [Device Name] 'WAN Miniport (PPPOE)'.
Now I would like to use the router instead of the 2 NICs' PC.
In the router manual when referring to PPPoE connection configuration they imply a cable/DSL modem that I don't have.
Can I still configure my Internet connection over Edimax BR-6104K or do I have to look for an ISP with cable modem Internet?
My problem is when use edimax or router i cant surf or i cant connect the only word i see is UNABLE TO COONNECT. but if direct my wireless wire or broadband it have a connection so pls help me to make a sulution on this...
I had problem with br-6104k pppoe. the solution is setting dns as gateway(internal ip of the router).
1. set wan ip (1a or 1b)
1a. by dhcp
1b. static ip
2. set pppoe (set, connect, appy)
3. set router lan ip (192.168.1.1 or 192.168.x.x)
4. set client PCs ip(192.168.1.2),subnet(255.255.255.0),gateway(router lan ip: 192.168.1.1),dns(same as gateway: 192.168.1.1)
this work for me.
i`m sorry for the bad english.
You need a modem that your isp should be providing. without a modem you cant get online
HI,
Actually in short "you NEED A MODEM;"
In order to connect your router you need to connect a modem in "bridge mode'( bridge mode is nothing but a configuration on the modem)..
this is a picture of rear side of a router,,, you have to connect the modem into the wan port of the router (above),, and in port number 1,2,3,4 you can connect your computers,

I am not sure if I understand you well.
You say:
My Internet is a PPPoE broadband connection but I don't have a modem installed.
What do you mean ?
You have a Broadband/ADSL modem, but you didn't install any software for it ?
(It is probably not necessary.)
So, I assume you do have a modem. You connect your modem to the wall outlet with a telephone cable.
Then then modem is connected with LAN cable to one of your PC with two NICs, you make Internet Connection Sharing, and ten from the second NIC of that PC, you connect (again) with LAN cable, your second PC.
If it is an ADSL or Cable modem connected with LAN cable, please follow this steps.
First RESET your Edimax router and disconnect all LAN cables if connected.
Connect your PC (the one with one NIC) to one of the 4 LAN ports of your Router wit a LAN cable.
Open My Network Places and then View network connections, or go to Control Panel and open Network Connections.
Right-Click on your LAN adapter and choose Properties, then double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Set to 'Obtain IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server addres automatically' (click OK). Now you are back to the previous window. Click and check (if it is not) 'Show icon notification when connected' and once again click OK.
After a fiew seconds you should get (near to the clock in the the right bottom of your desktop), a Network icon and a baloon message that your NIC is connected.
Right-click on the network icon and click STATUS, a window will open
and then click on SUPPORT tab.
You should see:
IP Addres: 192.168.2.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1
Open your browser and type http://192.168.2.1
Now login as:
admin (default)
and password is: 1234 (default)
Click on GENERAL SETUP on Top-Left, and then on WAN (on the right side) and choose
PPPoE.
Click on 'More configuration'
Type your User Name and Password you have from your ISP.
Now Click on APLY, and again APLY !
The Router will restart in 30 Sec, and your NIC will reconnect.
Now connect your Modem to a WAN port of your Router with LAN cable. (***)
Now:
if you've typed your User Name and Password correctly in PPPoE fields,
and
if everything is OK with the service from your provider,
you should now be on Internet.
If not, then please check your User Name and Password with your Internet Service Provider, and ask them if they can see your router.
Now, get to the PC with two NICs.
Go to Control Pannel, and go to Network Connections.
Right-click on one of your NICs and click 'Disable'.
Check the other NIC if 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' settings are set to Obtain IP addres and DNS - Automatically, and 'Show icon notification when connected' and once again click OK.
Connect the (enabled) NIC with LAN cable to another port of your router.
The second PC should be on Internet, too.
If you (somehow) realy don't have a modem, but you have a cable only, follow the above instructions to the point (***) and connect the cable to the WAN port of your router.
That's it!
Regards

Messrs,
I had my router two weeks ago installed by the supplier and it worked well untill three day's ago.
While being connected with MSN it failed and I lost the connection.
I still could share files with the other computer.
Connecting my PC directly with the network of my provider I could get on line again without any problem.
I tried to get started again the router, following the instructions of the Quick Installation Guide, version 2.0 of October 2006, step by step but without any result.
Your assistance will be appreciated.
Regards, Straatman.
