SOURCE: Whirlpool electric Cooktop's one burner not heating

Hi,

Initially, it could either be:

  • open heating element (most likely);
  • open temperature limiter (least likely);
  • faulty/loose connection/wiring (a possibility).
Please confirm that it is a Whirlpool RCC3024 Electric Cooktop.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: RCC3024 cooktop one burner wont heat

Hi again,

It would seem you posted anew.

For some reason I could not locate related literature for a RCC3024LD01,although there are for LB01, LQ01 and a LT01. Most of the components inthese models could be checked with the use of a continuity tester(multitester VOM/DVM). The idea is to check for continuity of eachcomponent. If we are to assume that the heating element as a likelysuspect, it is a matter of checking if the coil is continuous, that isno break anywhere in between. The test prods of the continuity testerwould be applied to the two (2) terminals of the heating element andthe tester should deflect/display how much is the resistance. Normalreading shouold be pretty low while no deflection/reading indicates anopen coil and therefore would require replacement.

These additional documents may be of help to you:

  1. exploded parts diagram;
  2. parts list.
Cheers.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Flat cooktop burner not heating up

Try cleaning the knobs. I did the same thing you did (turning the circuit breaker off but that did not solve the problem.

My wife just tried turning the knobs and that seemed to work. It appears that one of the knobs may have been so sticky that the though it's in the OFF position it thinks it's still ON.

SOURCE: cooktop red light is staying on

The red light is on as a safety to let you know the surface is hot. When the light goes out the surface will be safe to touch with out getting a bad burn.

not sure which is yours as the model # should have a few more # or letters. Take a look at them and see if one matches.

My right front burner has stopped working.

no solution - just wanted you to know that I have had this model since 2004 and had to replace this burner twice under warranty and twice after that. It broke again 2 years ago so I just cook without it now. Will be replacing the cooktop and am resolved not to buy Jenn-Air/Maytag/Whirlpool products again - convinced it is a element design problem.

LIGHT STAYS ON FOR HOURS BUT THE TOP HAS COOLED

if its going out, its probably ok
its not a light indicating the burner is on, rather that the glass is abcove 100 degrees and still not safe to put something on
2 hours is a bit long but it depends on how fst the surface can cool of
you can test this by trying to cool it off faster with a fan ans see what happens

Only 1 of 5 burners is working on my Viking electric cooktop

By only 1 burner working, I take you mean only 1 ignites, then it sounds as though you have an issue with the spark module being defective. There is usually an access panel on the bottom of the unit, although not on all of them. Remember to disconnect from the electric.
