Is the oven working now? test to see if the broiler is working too....if broiler working and oven not you need to replace the ignitor http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-fgf316-%3d%3di12872&PartID=12872 normally when an igniter gets old it will take a little longer to ignite the gas hence the gas smell.

Stove top burners work but when the oven is turned on it looks like the pilot light will glow but will not ignite the oven

Hello,

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake igniter is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake igniter(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when oven is set to bake by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of igniter make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than 3.3-3.6 amps replace bake igniter. I know it seems improbable that if the igniter comes on that it could be the problem.Professional appliance technicians who would charge a average of $250.00 to repair your oven, have found when the igniter comes on yet the oven won't heat that a weak igniter is the cause 100% of the time

I've had a Premier electric stove for a number of years and just today i'm noticing a smell coming from the oven that resembles gas while preheating and cooking. Any idea why?

Either the ignitor is wearing out and not drawing enough amperage to open the gas valve properly, or the gas valve is not working properly. You can not tell a weak ignitor by looking at it, you need a amp clamp to test.

Do not recommend using any appliance with a gas smell coming from it.
If you are smelling any type of gas when not on, turn off gas to appliance completely.

You state this as a electric stove, taking this to mean electric ignitors and not pilots............

Gas stove top works, broiler works, oven does not

is it electronic iginition? are you asking about top burner pilots? if so there are under the top in the middle beteen each side of the burners 1 pilot does burners on right and 1 on left. oven pilots are underneath you have to remove bottom door look in there at back and look up and you'll see it. if its a electronis ignition range you have no pilots!! glow coils and sparkers....

Gas smell, oven not heating up

You gas oven uses a glowbar to both regulate and ignite the gas entering the oven. If this glowbar is faulty, it might let some gas into the oven but it is not hot enough to ignite the gas. That is why you are smelling gas. I would suggest to start by replacing the glowbar (and if this is not the solution, simply return the part for a refund). The part you are looking for can be found online here: http://www.partselect.com/PartDetail.aspx?Inventory=470129&SourceCode=1

It is quite easy to replace. Simply remove the free-standing pan on the bottom of the oven, unscrew the existing glowbar, remove the back cover from the stove and trace the two wires that belong to the glowbar and unplug them. Thread the two wires from the new glowbar through the opening and reconnect to the plugs at the back of the stove. Screw in the new glowbar and test. Most oven ignition problems are caused by faulty glowbard. Good luck.

OVEN PILOT WENT OUT

hopefully the gas smell isn't too strong and posing a hazard to you. If it is, reach behind the range and turn the valve until it is across the gas line and not parallel to it. You should be able to raise the top of the range from the front and see all the workings underneath. There you will find the pilot light.

Faulty bake or broil element

The solution to this problem depends on whether the oven is electric or gas. Electric oven. If your electric oven's bake or broil element isn't working properly, either it isn't receiving electric power or the element or the oven control may need to be replaced. In many cases, the wiring to the elements can be burnt or broken. 1) Be sure the controls are set on the proper setting. 2) Be sure the stove is plugged in and/or check the circuit breaker or fuse that serves that circuit. 3) Call an appliance repairperson or replace the element yourself as follows. 4) Unplug the oven and let any hot parts cool. 5) Unscrew the mounting screws that secure the element bracket to the oven and pull out the element far enough to access its terminals. Note which wires are attached to each of the terminals, then disconnect the wires (pull off the wire clips or unscrew the wires). 6) Take the element to a parts dealer, along with your oven's model and serial number, and buy a replacement (preferably the manufacturer's suggested replacement part). 7) Reverse the process to reinstall. Gas oven. When a gas oven doesn't get hot, it generally means that it isn't receiving gas, the gas valve isn't distributing gas to the oven burner, or the ignition system -- either an electronic ignition or pilot light -- isn't working properly. A common problem with ovens that have a pilot light is that the pilot light has gone out. NOTE: Gas ranges younger than 10 years old have a sophisticated fault code system that governs their ignition. Always call an approved warranty service provider to handle problems with these ranges. Here's how to troubleshoot your range: 1) Be sure the controls are set on the proper setting. 2) Be sure the stove is plugged in and/or check the circuit breaker or fuse that serves that circuit. 3) Check the gas valve to be sure the gas supply is turned on (also make sure the house's main gas valve is turned on). 4) On a stove with a pilot light, make sure the pilot light is burning. If it isn't, re-light as discussed HERE, or in your owner's manual. 5) Adjust the pilot flame (older stoves only). 6) Turn off the gas and unplug the stove (or turn off its circuit at the electrical panel). 7) Clean out the oven burner ports, using a stiff wire. 8) Plug in the stove (or turn on its circuit) and turn the gas back on. Re-light the pilot (if it has one). 9) If the oven still doesn't work, call an appliance repairperson.
