Freezing fresh food - Maytag MSD2756GES Side by Side Refrigerator

Food freezing in fresh food compartment is most likely a bad thermostat/ control board, or a damper that’s open too much.

The problem is with the damper door.Check that it is not cracked.If it is cracked then you will have to replace it with a new one.

if the food you have in there is iced pls, relocate and bring in fresh food there.

your evaporator motor may be going bad also check to see if your condensing unit and fan motor are clean this can cause similar problems.

• If food in the bottom of the refrigerator is freezing, this could be caused by a refrigerator not having enough food to absorb the cold air.
• If food in the door is freezing, move the door bins up or down so they are one notch away from freezer vents (Side by Side models only).
• The fresh food control should be at the normal setting of 5.

Freezer on Top Models
First, check the controls. They should be set at "C" and "5" or "5" and "5". The proper fresh food temperature is between 38 and 42 degrees Fahrenehit. The freezer should be between 0 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit.

• Since the cold air coming into the fresh food section originates in the freezer above, the rear of the top shelf will be the coldest spot in the fresh food area. Avoid placing delicate items that freeze easily on the back half of this shelf.
• If food is freezing in the produce (fruits and vegetables) or meat pan, it may be that the temperature controls are not set high enough. Since cold air naturally falls, the pans can get too cold if the refrigerator is not running long enough to maintain good air circulation. Adjust both controls up one notch.

Some people prefer freeze dried fish food over fresh as it's easier to keep and a bit less revolting to handle. The freeze dried food kills parasites and preserves natural flavors and nutrients for a long period of time. But some fish prefer their food to be fresh, so it really depends on your fish.

Is food freezing in the rest of the fresh food side as well, or just the food in the lower half, like in the crispers. if its freezing everywhere in the fresh food section, you have a bad cold control most likely, without knowing the type or brand, i cant be 100%. If its a GE, you could have a different issue, but most any other brand will be a bad cold control.

If the food is only freezing in the lower half, then your evaporator fan motor is likely the problem, located in the freezer

Is it all areas of the fresh food side that are freezing your items, or is it the drawer area?

There is a direct connection (on my GE side-by-side, at least) between the freezer compartment and the drawers in the fresh food compartment. The size of the connection is controlled with a wheel or a slider. This could contribute to freezing in that area of the fresh food compartment.

Otherwise, it could be the temp sensor(s) in the fresh food compartment. If the computer thinks the temp is too high in the fresh food compartment, it will continue to cool.

It could be a problem with the motorized door that connects the freezer compartment to the fresh food compartment, located at the top of the dividing wall between the compartment. That door should close when the temp in the fresh food compartment is cold enough. If that door mechanism has failed, is disconnected, or otherwise blocked in the open position, cold air from the freezer compartment will continue to circulate into the fresh food compartment.

Please read it appears that there are two defrost timers for your refrigerator one for the freezer one for the refrigerator

the air damper is stuck open or tempature control is bad. look thru the vents(use a mirror) on the left rear(top side) of the fresh food compartment (right hand door) to see if the air damper is open/closed. i am sure it will be open since your freezing food in the ref section. if it is open ,watching with your mirror turn ref (fresh food) control off. the air dmper should close, if not damper could be stuck(ice build up,piece of foam,ect) if you can determine damper door is free, then best thing to do is replace controlassy.(120.00 or so) good luck
