Multiple text entry modes make it easy for you to enter
names, numbers, and messages. The mode you select
remains active until you select another mode.
Press # in a text entry screen to select one of the
following entry modes:
Primary Your primary text entry mode .
Numeric Enter numbers only .
Symbol Enter symbols only .
Secondary Your secondary text entry mode .

you have a text message not a voice mail

To get capital letters, press O key and check the ABC at the top of your text area to see it change, when you have the caps continue texting.
To get the symbols press 1 key continuously until you find desired symbol

go to settings ---> call barring ---> then click on Data calls ----> cancel .

this should enable sms send and recieve.

try a master reset of teh phone...if that does not work then the phone will need to be flash you can try topsony.com or take it to a mobile service center and have it reflash.

I would say try taking your sim card out and putting it back in. I don't know if this work. I would just try. good luck I hope you can fix it.

it seems like this is a firmware issue or conflict between the softwares or whatever your may have downloaded. You can repair it yourself, but be careful not to brick / kill your phone with wrong softwares.
Your local repair shop can help you too, if its under warranty bring to store to flash for free.

This will probably be your bluetooth connection, you can turn it off in connections.
