SOURCE: Denon AVR-1601

This is a very common problem with denon receivers of the 2001-2-3 vintage. On almost every one, there are 4 little "surge" resistors in the power supply. These werent quite robust enough from the factory and one day would just burn open for no reason. Well, actually there is a reason, the "surge" that happens every time you power the unit up eventually weakens the resistors and then they pop. You need to take this to a denon service shop as I GUARANTEE they have seen this before. They need to check resistors in the picture, locarde above the **** rectangular connector. Resistors numbers R141, 142, 148, 149: 75f69d7.jpg These resistors when measured, should be less than 10 ohms each. If they are more, then they are blown. If they are blown, then have the shop check the channels for blown output transistors. If the outputs are OK, then these resistors should be replaced with 1 ohm 1/2 watt metal -film flameproof resistors. You might need to be prepared for a large bill, because the entire unit must come apart to replace the resistors, however, just checking them takes only about 10 minutes... Good luck and don't try this at home. Rob

How do I reset a technics sa-gx350 receiver unit

Don't know that you can actually reset this unit like the new digital receivers. It does have protection circuitry that will shut the unit down in case speaker wires are shorted or if speaker impedance is less than the indicated rated impedance of the amp. do the following:
1. Turn off power and unplug from wall.
2. Check all connections and correct if needed.
3. Turn back on after 1-2 minutes.
If unit is still in protect mode you may want to unplug everything from the unit and then power back up to see if the problem is internal or external. If it powers up correctly then the problem is external. Power back down and plug in one external item at a time and power back up between connecting each item to see which item causes the receiver to go into protection mode.
If problem seems to be internal I'd recommend taking to an electronics repair shop if you aren't comfortable with taking apart to check fuses, terminations, etc. There may be a 5-amp fuse in the power plug head also.

JVC car audio cd receiver model # KDR-310 will not stay powered up. Shuts down after 2 seconds. What's wrong??

hi marnie, if all the power and speaker cables are connected correctly, then you might have a faulty or shorted speaker in the vehicle.your unit is sensing a fault condition. check the impedance of eack speaker connected to the unit from the harness plug. if this does not help then your unit needs to be bench tested.

I turn stereo on and it shuts off after a few seconds

There is an output load on the receiver, turn off! remove speaker wires from back, power on and turn down the volume, if it holds! you have a short in the wires or one of the speakers. Now if if shuts down with everything dis-connected it means there is one or more audio outputs shorted.

One last try with everything disconnected!
Other than that I suspect internal surge damage.

Power cuts off after a second after turning on.

There is a very good chance that you have a channel where the output transistors are shorted. Remove the top and pull the center colored ribbon cable going to the power amplifier section. If your display stays on, this is the problem

Won't stay on

This is normally caused when the overload protection circuit kicks in. To see if this is the case, unplug everything (except power) including speakers and then power on th receiver. If it stays on then try reconnecting speakers one by one. If one of the speakers causes the failure then follow the speaker wire back to the speaker and examine for damage. If all speakers work then start adding components back one by one and test as each one is re-connected.

good luck

When i power on the device, it comes on but goes off about 5 seconds later.

Hi...

1st thing to check is for GOOD speaker connections at both ends
and not mixing A and B speaker wiring.

A Denon is usually a good brand. Might be worth servicing if need be.
