As long as you are following the instructions properly, I would say you have a defective board. This accessory is notorious for failing even brand new straight out of the box. In fact, they are so unreliable that most consignment game shops will not even consider purchasing them from you.

If you are simply finding it difficult to connect the board because you lack the proper instructions, here you go: How to sync Wii Tony Hawk Ride Skateboard (not my vid, but this is exactly what you need to do).

SOURCE: board will not calibrate to

Don't use brand new batteries. Using older batteries makes the sensors less "sensitive". You will have to recalibrate every time you change batteries but at least you can use your product this way.

SOURCE: Tony Hawk Shred board will

I had the same problem. I turned the WII so the dongle/sensor that comes with the game is facing the skateboard with a clear line of sight between the dongle/sensor and skateboard. Now it's able to calibrate. Hope this works for you.

Cannot calibrate Tony Hawk Shred for Wii

I had the same problem. I solved it and got the board to calibrate immediately when I replaced the brand new batteries with used batteries. Brand new batteries apparently make the lasers very sensitive. You have less sensitive sensors with the used batteries. I just took some AA's out of my cable remotes. The game is awesome once you get it calibrated. I felt your pain for an hour or so.

OUR TONY HAWK BOARD WILL NOT CONNECT WITH THE SYSTEM. THE BLUE LIGHTS FLASH A FEW TIMES THEN THE SKATE BOARD CONTROLLER TURNS OFF.

You probably need to sync the controller to the system. I am not sure if it works the same as the remote, but if you have the instruction booklet, it should tell you how to sync the controller.
Usually, there should be a sync button on the controller. Press it, and then press the sync button behind the sd compartment on the console.
