Cannot sign in

Yahoo! Messenger gives you the option to make your status appear "online", "busy" or "offline." If you want to appear online all the time you must set the messenger to do so, especially if you changed it to a different setting at any point.

1.Sign On
In order to set your instant messenger to "online" you must sign in to your account. You should use your Yahoo! email address and password to sign in to the account. If you want the program to sign you in automatically, you must check these options on the initial sign in box.

2. Settings
Click your name at the top of the "friends" list and change your setting to "available." Available means you are online at your computer and ready to chat.

3. Changes
No changes are made to your status unless you sign off (which you will then appear offline) or if you physically change your setting. It does not change every time you sign off.

Your yahoo messenger close when you open yahoo mail because on your yahoo mail the chat automatic sign in. For you to be able to sign-out that follow the steps below.
1. On the top page you will the see "Available" there is an icon "arrow down" click on that icon.
2. Click "sign out of Chat"
3. You will be offline for chat on your yahoo mail
4. Then sign in on your yahoo messenger.

Hi, we now have several locations that are capable of accessing the Yahoo Instant Messaging feature.
Yahoo Messenger itself, plus Yahoo Web Messenger, Yahoo All New Mail, My Yahoo, your Mobile phone, plus any other computer.etc etc.
Yahoo classifies all these programs as different 'locations or devices'
Yahoo currently do not allow you to have 2 open and active at the same time. If you have one open, and then move to another, one will close and you get a message telling you that you have been signed out. You CAN have Messenger and Mail open together as long as your status is set to "offline" in MAIL by using the drop-box next to your name and selecting 'Sign out of chat'. ( your chat contacts will remove themselves from the inbox until you make yourself 'available' again.)
Please note:
You may think you are signed out of Messenger when this is not the case.
Hitting the 'X' when you close the Messenger page does not sign you out of Messenger it only closes that page - you have to Exit Messenger by right clicking the icon in the system tray.and selecting 'Exit' I suggest you make this setting. > (left click) Messenger > Preferences > General - check box "sign out of Messenger when I close the main window" > Apply > OK.
If the above does not apply and you suspect your account is being used by a hacker. When you get signed out, close all your Yahoo programs and type your name into this software. Hit "GO" and hopefully it will show you as "offline".
If not, contact Yahoo customer services

Open yahoo messenger sign in > click Messenger > My Pingbox or go here http://messenger.yahoo.com/pingbox/ click Create a Pingbox > choose Background theme , text size, color , displey name, online greating offline messege etc. as your wish, give the name of pingbox, save it, select the size of pingbox for your website and copy & peste the code.....Good luck

If Yahoo Messenger is not responding after clicking Sign In, it could be the root file is corrupted. You can try to uninstall/re-install the YM and it should work.

You might have some options to fix it: firstly; this error occurs when your connection preferences are not properly set. I'm not talking about your Yahoo! ID and Password here, but you may need to adjust certain features depending on what network you're on. Maybe, i think you should check your firewall settings. If you use Personal Firewall, make sure it allows your connection to receiving incoming connections and allows you to use yahoo messenger,check it out, may be it blocked your yahoo messenger. if a firewall protects your network, it may block yahoo messenger when it tries to connect to the server. You need to change your connection settings, click the Messenger menu in yahoo messenger and select Connection Preferences. Select Firewall With No Proxies. Select your Internet Connection type from the pull-down menu at the bottom and enter your Home Country if the adoptions aren’t grayed out. Click OK and login again using the new settings. If this option doesn’t work, click Connection Preferences in Yahoo! Messenger again and select No Network Detection. Try to login again using the new settings. In some instances, you may need to provide yahoo messenger with the IP address of your firewall or proxy server (you can get this information from your network administrator or from your Internet service provider). Click Messenger and select Connection Preferences again. Select Use Proxies. Enable either the HTTP Proxy or the SOCKS Proxy as needed and provide the proper address. Click OK and login again using the new settings.Or other way, open your Internet Explorer>Go to File>Then, 'uncheck Work Offline', make sure your Internet connection is not working offline. Or other way, open your Internet Explorer>Go to File>Then, 'uncheck Work Offline', make sure your Internet connection is not working offline. Then, close Internet Explorer, try to sign in your yahoo messenger.
