I think this is the manual for your machine. It should tell you all you need to know:

This could be a number of things. Clogged air filter/fuel filter/carburetor/fuel tank lid breather hole, cracked fuel line or primer bulb, or clogged spark arrestor in muffler. Here's some links that will help to change the bulb, fuel cap, fuel lines, rebuild carb, replace spark arrestor, and troubleshoot. Homelite Tune Up
You need to check the ignition coil, by running until it quits and then remove the spark plug, reattach the plug wire and then ground the plug threads to the block and then try to start it. If you get no spark or very weak spark, the coil is bad and needs to be replaced.
What plug are you currently using?
if its a DJ7Y gap at 0.025 tapered seat
if its a DJ7J gap at 0.030 tapered seat
if its a CJ8 gap at 0.025 gasket
if its aCJ6Y gap at0.030 gasket
if its a CJ6 gap at 0.030 gasket
these are champion plugs
if you have different cross reference your make
You have to make sure the case of the plug is making good connection against the metal on motor. Use file or sandpaper to get good connection on the plug and the motor.
