While watching the tv I heard a loud pop, the screen went out and 5 seconds it came back but during image changes, ghosts of the previous image linger for a moment. I've read that it could be a cap in the power supply and that I could possibly replace it. Are there any other possible causes?

Had the exact same problem today. I heard a loud pop and now the image has a terrible resolution. Waiting on any solution. Thanks.
i have the same problem - mine popped twice now no picture only sound
Got the same problem, any more info regarding Vizio p50 power supply (cap, etc). Thanks
Vizio P50 // no picture on the screen but sound is fine. Tried it on all hook-ups, HDMI, Analog, still the same. Super bowl is coming & i need this fixed!
Just happened to me last evening. Costco is supposed to send someone out for repair. However I have only read that there is nobody fixing Vizio, and the it will probably be replaced. What is your experience?
Just happened to me this morning. Picture came back after first pop. Nothing after the second pop. This is no good.
Same problem, Vizio 50 inch, loud pop and no picture. Cannot call Vizio, service closes at 6 pm cst and I do not get home till 6??
Yes, Pops goes the picture...It popped and picture degraded badly, but not gone, them popped again and picture went even worse...
I bought mine from Costco back in 12/2005...there goes $2800, cost me about $105/mo to watch TV...I smell class action ....
Don't recall a pop, however I have no picture or menu etc., but do have sound. Paid 2800 in 2006 at costco. Kind of costly tv watching. The salesman said it should last at least 10 years. Do I buy a new one (not Vizio) for 2200 now or get mine repaired. Buyer Beware! Any hepl on cause or solution appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Our TV is just about 2 years old (got it for the Winter 2006 Olympics). I was watching a program, and noticed some weird color issues. On a program about roller coasters, some of high-speed, high contrast colors were periodically really bad, but then would come back correctly. It happened several times. Then, there was a popping noise, and the screen went dark. Within a couple of seconds, the power indicator light went from green to orange. I pressed the power button again, and the light went from orange to green, then from green to orange. No picture at all. I'm guessing the inner of the two plasma screens broke the seal. It's out of warranty, so I'm wondering how much it would cost to fix it.
Same problem, screen went squiggly. The repair shop said the panel is bad and the whole thing was scrap. Can we sue these people?
i have the same problem with my vizio p50 i got it like 7months ago i heard a loud popping noise, and now i have no picture at all. But the audio seems to be working fine PLEASE HELP!!
Two loud pops and the picture is now dim and ghosting with multiple artifacts. Costco claims it will fix it, but I've already had a new power supply and new fans fixed on this thing. As it was purchased before the new return policy at Costco I'm going to try taking it back and demanding an exchange.
I have the same problem with my vizio p50 as well. I bought back in 2005 or 2006, but about 7months ago, I heard a loud pop, and lost screen image completely. I called vizio at the time and they said without a warranty, they expect the repairs to be about $700. Is there a recall on this? I can't believe how many people are having this same problem.
We had same problem, loud pop & screen went black. Called Vizio waiting on them to call me back with price quote to fix.
Loud pop then black screen with some ghosts but no image. On the phone w costco and vizio as we speak. This sucks balls.
Same issue. Watching TV when heard loud POP then screen went dead for short period then came back with ghosts. Ever since pic is horrible. Called Vizio they want serial number but TV pro hung 5' in the air and I cannot get to without paying someone. Don't want to have it brought down if it is something simple - where is this power supply cap all talk about? What did Costco do? We bought in late 2005.
same thing - i am adding my entry in hopes that Vizio will 'man-up' and give a recall to this very common defect. C'mon!!
Same Problem. I got mine at Costco 3 years ago. Vizio said I had to Pay $650 to fix it. I called Costco and they called Vizio. Vizio is coming out to fix it free!
