If it were left on its possible that the element that heats the water has burned out think blown light bulb have your Mr Test it with a ohm meter to see if the circuit is open
It could be broken but it could also be jammed or clogged by some dirt or water. My first answer would be to get a new one. but if you dont want to throw it away you should take it to a recyling store.i know that is getting rid of it but it is not exactly because you still remember it.
