I had the same problem. The LCD display did not respond and I could not get past the Welcome screen. I disconnected the LCD screen and reconnected it and this fixed my problem. If you remove the back cover held on by four screws you can get at the small white plug for the LCD screen, I disconnected and reconnected under power.

The company went bankrupt. I get a "unable to read map data error". Called for over a month, sent email after email. Finally contacted a company that fixes Finedrives and they told me the company (Fine Digital) is out of business and will not warranty the unit...ten months old at the time. The company who fixes these machines said that it would be cheaper to buy a new(different company) gps system compared to having them fix the Finedrive 400.

Symptom: GPS goes into an Off State
Screen states - Auto Detecting GPS Receiver - This went on for days.

My Fix to the issue: Hold down the reset button on the front of the unit for 15 seconds.

How To Reset Your Magellan Maestro/Roadmate GPS Units

Factory Reset
Do not attempt to perform a factory reset on the Roadmate or Maestro GPS units by holding down both the "Reset" and "Power" buttons. This will cause the GPS unit to format its own hard drive. Doing so will erase all data, including the GPS software, from the unit.
  1. Locate the button marked "Reset" on the left, right or bottom of the unit.
  2. Using a thin object, such as a paper clip, depress the button for two to three seconds. The unit should reset.
  3. If the unit does not reset, immediately press the button again and hold it for up to 10 seconds.
If your Maestro GPS Touch Screen Doesn't work, try performing a Hardware Reset
  1. Remove the Magellan Maestro from the holding cradle.
  2. Hold down the "Power" button on the right side of the device, until the unit powers on.
  3. Straighten the end of a paper clip. Place the paper clip in the reset hole, located on the left side of the GPS unit. Hold down the "Reset" button for 10 seconds. Remove the paper clip.
  4. Turn the Magellan Maestro unit off by holding down the "Power" button. Turn the unit back on again. The device is now reset.

If your Roadmate GPS is locked up, try performing a Hardware Reset
  1. On the RoadMate, press + + - - + -
  2. The "hidden menu" will appear.
  3. From there, you can access the shell and perform a hard reset.

When I stop and turn off my car, my Garmin 255W stays on. Hows do I turn it off?

If your GPS is plugged into your power outlet in your car, it just means that the power outlet retains power when your vehicle is off as well. Meaning it is not an "Accessory" power source. Not a big deal, simply slide the power button on your garmin unit to the left. The power button is located on the top left side of the GPS. It is spring loaded so when you slide it to the left, hold it there for a second then it will spring back into place. Just release it and the unit should power down.

Turn off turn on switch

What about it? It is located on the top left side of the unit. Hold it down for a few seconds before it works.

My gps frozen i turn and it stay pontin other

make sure it has a good charge on it, the look up on the top left corner and see if all the bars are green, if they are not, the satellites have not locked on.

with the unit on, press and hold the power button for 15 seconds, take it outside in clear view of the open sky, then power it back on by holding the power button for up to ten seconds or until it powers on and allow the satellites to link up.

if that fails, let me know by repling to this post

Zen Nomad Xtra - to go to Rescue Mode do the following:
1. Insert a pin into the small hole on the left side of the player
below the volume adjustment switch.
2. Hold down the Play button on the right side of the switch
3. Rescue Mode Menu will appear
4. There are 4 Options available, but best option to fix most
problems is reformat hard drive.
5. Reformat is very fast
6. Turn off and reboot.
7. Problem solved.

if you can get into recovery mode most likely bad hard drive

Stuck on welcome

the finedrive screen stuck could be a firmware issue, you may need to reload the firmware. you can find disks for it on the finedigitalusa site.

the error coudl be a corrupted memory card, I had this once. it either give you an error or tells you the card is not inserted. again, the solution is to reload the card with map data.
