Dell Inspiron 8200 has Dynex USB 2.0 Network Adapter with Belkin 802.11g-54 mbps connected. Keeps dropping off internet--all I did was shut down, removed adapter and belkin - rebooted- and now all software...

All you should need is the driver for the wireless adapter , you can download the driver from this website http://www.dynexsupport.com/product/?pid=DX-BUSB run the program to install the driver
To check the adapter is installed go into the device manager and see if its shown. Press the Windows key (bottom left of the keyboard} and at the same time press the R key, now in the search box that appears - type devmgmt.msc and see if you have a wireless adapter showing at all. are there any ? X or ! look under network adapters - click on the + and see if you have the adapter listed - check if it has any X or ! or ?
A useful tool to use, if you can copy onto the PC, http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php this will detect all the networks broadcasting - so you can now see if the adapter is working and if it will detect your wireless network

You need to setup your new homegroup settings on your Windows 7 PC. Once you set this up you can copy to all your windows XP computers. This will put all the computers in sync. You can find the homegroup by going to the start menu and searching for homegroup. Please let me know if you have questions.

Setting up a wireless printer

Hi Rob,

The situation seems very vague, First off, you have to identify if you're using this for a corporate environtment usage or are you using this on a home network? Next question would be,if the network you're connecting the dell wireless adaptor to has reserved the ip address for the allocation of the printer. If not, then there are a few possible reasons for your situation:

  • IP Mismatch. If you're connecting the dell wireless adaptor directly to your printer and network, ensure that the IP ADDRESS of the printer is matching that of the ipaddress of the printer driver in your computer (Control panel>Printers>Right click printer>properties)

  • Driver Error. Download the latest driver for your model printer and install it on your notebook. Once this is done, make sure you are able to "see" the printer by printing a test page.

  • Not conencted to the netwrok. Sometimes, this happens when you're not connected to the netwrok (but you think you are just casue you see a "connected" icon). Make sure you're conencitng to YOUR network everytime you reboot and not mooch on some other netwrok.
Hope this helped. Please do let me know how it goes. Thank you.
