Gateway Desktop WindowsXP Virus Infection, Comp no longer working

Ok, so i was downloading a music organizer and one way or the other i think i got some viruses. I kept getting popups out of nowhere saying i had 24 viruses, 17 of which were dangerous and to pay for virus software. Anyways, i kept trying to do a system restore, but it didnt let me go to a date prior than that day. Which i thought was weird. I was running norton 2009 and it said it found some viruses on my comp. and they were "removed." But i still kept getting the popups saying i had viruses. I didnt want to do a full system restore because i didnt want to lose any of my data. i had tons of my daughters pics and videos of when she was a baby, and i hated the thought of losing them. i still feel very bummed about it. Anyways, i decided to do a repair windows with the original operating disk. I inserted it, and it asked me what i wanted to do, i clicked on repair windows, and it started going through the beginning of the installation but i got scared because when it was going through the installation process i for some reason thought i was going to lose my data. So i cancelled. Then i tried to go through the disk again and this time it no longer asked me if i wanted a repair windows or full system restore. it just started doing the installation, so i let it go through, but i kept getting popups saying a file was corrupt and that i could retry or skip. i kept pushing skip because retry would do the trick. so when it finally got through the installation it just said a file was corrupt and the installation couldnt complete. i tried turning on my comp and now it wont load all the way through a black screen comes up with the white letters saying file corrupt. try installing file again. i dont know what to do! how can i get my precious files back. i feel so helpless. can someone please help. i really dont have money to get it seen my a pro. i will really appreciate any advice. thanks in advance. Sandra

You can download a boot CD system and start computer from CD to save your files.

A boot CD is a CD with Windows installed , so that you can start computer rom CD instead that from Windows.
this will allow you to save your files starting from the boot cd and browsing the folder:C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName.....this folder with your username will contain desktop and My documents.

You can download a boot cd here: Ultimate Boot CD - Download the UBCD
Alternative solutions are removing the hard drive, or booting from USB.

Hello, I have the Dell Latitude D610. All of my apps; you name it are gone. When turning on the PC it takes a lil longer to load into WINDOWSXP. All I have on my desktop is the recycle Bin :(....I've tried...

It sounds like the computer is booting into the administrator account, which also maybe safe mode.. When the computer boots up and is stable (give it a few minutes) go online and go to the following site and downoad the shown program. It is called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware tool. Download, run and update this tool. Perform a quick scan and when the scan finishes, click on the "show results" button, then delete every infection it finds. When it is done, reboot the system.

OK... I have a problem with the something called the debugger... each time i try to download or open the web browser[s] it says debugger97? I also have another question what is the best website to get...

Go to Internet Explorer select tools, select internet options go to the last tab reset internet explorer,Go to the General tab aswell select delete once completed click on apply then ok restart Internet Explorer.Well you may have spyware.Go to www.cnet.com in the search field type malwarebytes.Downlaad the free version install it and scan your computer. As far as music is concerned the best bet is to use a paying site where you can have unlimited download and its virus free.

Loads up ok then i get the introduction with music. just a blank screen with main menu music in the background after that. Any ideas?

this case is due to the infection of a virus and you might have probably lost some system files
  1. press ctrl+Alt+del to open the task manager and select the applications tab and click the New task button and type explorer and hit ok
  2. get a disc of windowsXp servicepack2 and with the disc in drve type the command "SFC\scannow" in the command prompt.this will restore the lost system files

I'm having problems with WindowsXP loading at start-up

I don't think you have a virus, Norton 360 is a very good antivirus program and would have caught it. Try disabling all of the Norton 360 features then load the Windows XP disc. Sometimes anti-virus programs interfere with the processs. I am assuming you have the Windows XP original disc. This should work.

No sound device after complete installation of all drivers.

Hi there.

I had to install WindowsXP from scratch, due to a virus infection. After complete installation of the WindowsXP, I installed all the drivers from the disc that was included with the motherboard. Yet for some reason, when I open windows media player, there is no sound device. What seems to be the problem?

Can anyone of you help me withit?
