SOURCE: microwave seems to turn on when door latch is opened

What's happening is you are activating one door switch a little before the other, and that is causing your light, fan, and turntable to come on. The plastic parts are not perfectly rigid, so they flex a little when you press the button, and that causes the lag to be more apparent. Even if you press the door open faster and look really close, you may notice the light, fan, and turntable coming on for a split second. That's perfectly normal. The relay on the control board must also be turned on before it will actually be cooking.

SOURCE: when I open my microwave door, it starts running

.
In most cases, it's not actually cooking, but instead the fan, turtable and light may be on. Yet it does need attention.

What this usually means is that you have a shorted door switch or a bad door switch mount.

It's easy to tell if it's actually cooking, just place a cup of water inside and see if it heats.

If so, that could mean a stuck relay on the control board. If so, we repair these for customers nationwide with our guaranteed $39.95 service. Far less than a new board.

SOURCE: GE microwave Turnable turns on opening the door

Thanks for the photo of the label!

It shows the FCC ID number, which I used to find schematics at the FCC Web site.

The problem is a shorted primary interlock switch.

This is the door switch which has two black wires connected to one terminal and a black and a blue wire connected to the other
terminal.

Kenmore Microwave model Fan running and light on when door closed.

This is normal. Kenmore microwaves will stay running with fan and light on for a short time after food is cooked. The reason is to air out the microwave after cooking. Things like pop corn, Bacon etc. have strong smells after cooking. The ventilation helps to remove odors.

Just like others, the microwave component does not work. Convection works just fine. Before microwave quit, it appeared to have something to do with the door(?) I would put a napkin b/w door and by...

If the inside light, fan and turntable come on when you try to cook, but it does not heat, this is probably a bad primary interlock (top door switch) or possibly that switch's mount is bad.

See this file on safety, and this file on door switches.

We have the full service / installation manual for this unit, and have uploaded it here to help you.

If the inside light, fan and turntable do not come on when you try to cook, the 20A fuse is probably bad or loose in its holder.

Microwave seems to run, but won't heat.

We have a similar problem! It sounds like a problem with the microswitch inside the unit that the door is suppose to engage when closed. If not engaged properly, it will not cook. We had the switch replaced last March but it has started acting up again. We can press in on the door and/or lift it slightly and it will cook. Try putting time on the counter and hit start. It the word "cook" appears then try moving the door slightly and see if the turntable starts turning. If not, then you may have a more serious problem. Good luck!

Does the microwave oven auto shut-off when you open the door while cook time is remaining?

Yes. The two hooks sticking out from the inside of your door go in and activate a series of switches. Once you press or pull to open the door, before the door even moves, one of the door switches will disengage and turn off the high voltage.
The fan and light may still be on, but the unit is no longer cooking.

It is possible that the magnatron is bad but hard to say on a no heat problem without checking all components. A lot of model give 5-7 yr warranty on that part.

Microwave turns on, but no heat or turntable movement

Quite often this is due to a bad door switch. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure, but it may also be a broken switch mount. I have a text file called "doorsw.txt" which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems, and a file called "safety.txt" which is of vital importance.
