Replacing the flex cable is really easy to do. It requires a small phillips head screw driver and about 5 - 10 of you time

BUT TAKE IT IN TO YOUR LOCAL SPRINT REPAIR CENTER. NOT ALL SPRINT STORES HAVE THEM SO LOOK THEM UP ONLINE. IT SHOULD COST NOTHING MORE THAN 35-55 DOLLARS.

My lg does the same thing when the battery runs out. This is where I don't think its the flex cable. I take the battery out for a minute or two then while holding down the power button replace the battery, the screen turns black with the verizon logo. I've had to this on three separate occasions when my battery died. I try to keep it charged so I don"t have to deal with this.
Sounds like a flex cable problem. Or maybe your screen needs replaced. Flex cable is alot cheaper to replace though. http://www.diymobilerepair.co.uk has good guides on replacing such parts.
I had the same problem , I send it in for service they change some parts and is o.k.

screen stay white
my mobile's screen is white when i slide the phone up, and sometimes it shows my phone desktop picture which has distorted colours. when i go to bring the menue up, everything is slanted to the side and the colours have changed, and when i click to send a text or choose anything from the menu, the screen goes back to being white again...it's so frustrating!! :(
the screen whent slanted so i shut my phone off when i went to turn it back on was fine so i went to close my phone and the same thing hjappened again i went to check a txt and the screen would slowly pop up and i could only read a small portion of the screen. So i took the battarie out for about two minutes put the battier back in and the screen was blank and would flash just white. after the batarie had died the phone had shut off and when i went to charge it went back to normal i shut the phone and the same thing re-occured.
man i was textin my girl then all of a soden wen i go 2 close my fone it gos blank. so i just turn it off then turn it bak on. nd now its just blank all da time. i took da battery out 4 bout 3-5 min. nd its still blank wat do i do!!!!!!!!!!
White screen goes on and off. Doesn't look good!
