This happened to me where the glow plug was working but couldn't hear the gas valve click on.
I tapped on the relay w channel locks and the gas came on, Flame on!

There is a diagnostic code flashed from a window in front panel of the furnace. What is it? From your description, I would bet on the ignitor as faulty. The vidoe shows this repair. The furnace is not sensing the flame. Turn off the power.
There is a metal rod in front of the last burner to light. It is corroded and needs to be cleaned. Its the flame sensor .
take the 1 screw out holding it in to the bar and scrub it with some steel wool till shiny. replace and turn on furnace. all should be fine.

Furnace wont light. have replaced heat rod and ignitor gets hot. tries 3 times and then only code that appears is lockout. no other codes to help troubleshoot. have checked exhaust. exhaust blower working...

Have your gas supplier verify delivery pressure. Too high or low, the valve will lock up. Should be a free service.

I have an old York outside compressor/coil/fan unit, CDHF36-6A, that I need to replace as it is no longer repairable. What is the capacity of this unit and what Carrier unit would be a good replacement?

You may already have the info you need. Look on the reverse side of the access panel on the unit. Typically they have a diagnostic schematic next to or combined with the wiring diagram. York is owned by Johnson Controls and you can contact then at 877-874-7378 if you don't find the diagnostic codes I refer to.

One more thing JR. you can download your owners manual from www.gogeisel.com. Very easy to use and it has the error codes in it.
