From Main Menu, arrow over to Diags and Select. First screen should display MENUS. Arrow over to it, press Select and change from whatever is displayed "Fact n" or "Diag x" to "Off", then press Select. This should turn it off.

I've run into a few that won't remember this setting and will default back to Fast Facts in approximately 2 minutes. Rebooting the receiver makes no difference. I have a call into Arris Tech Support about this and will report back if they have a solution.

UPDATE: According to Arris (aka Motorola), you'll need to get this DSR-4410MD authorized for an encrypted service (e.g., Fox, Discovery, Scripps, Disney) and the Provider can send down a remote command to turn off that function. According to Arris, there's no way for the end-user to do this. Of course if you're using this receiver's digital outputs (e.g., ASI or GbE), these Fast Facts won't appear on the video stream. These Fast Facts are strictly available thru the analog video or CVBS port.

HDMI problems

Make sure you're using theright 'type' of HDMI (if I remember correctly you have 'fast hdmi with build in lan and standard video/audio only hdmi). make sure your pc is fast enough, since hdmi is software based and therefore not 'just a copy' of your screen but rather a second screen. In fact, I would reccomend using a standard VGA or DVI to display on a tv, since it is faster an less hardware intenstif (higher resolution/ less stress on onboard video)
(if you have an older pc, this is the way to go) and use external speakers for your sound

Need to down convert 16:9 to 4:3

Down-conversion Capability
The HVR-1500 has a built-in down-conversion capability that allows 1080i recordings to be output as 480i and 576i signals from the i.LINK and SD-SDI interfaces. These signals can also be output from the analogue component, composite, or S-Video connectors. This allows 1080i recordings to be edited using non-linear editing systems running DV editing software or to be viewed on an SD monitor. When down-converting the 1080i recording, the aspect ratio displayed can be converted from 16:9 to 4:3. Display modes can be selected from Squeeze, Letterbox, or Edge crop.

DSR-45

Hello emvision,
This might be a problem where the tape when it stops it dose so at a point where the tape stops but it stops on an actual scene and dose a kind of pausing action as opposed to a stop condition (while pausing the video output amp is still active). In an actual stop the video amp is turned off. In digital once the stream is off it's off. This may account for the ghost image on the screen.

You can connect this directly to a DVD recorder. I suggest using S-Video and the two audio channels.
