Had the same problem. Was quoted $800 to fix. Searched the internet for 6 months and found this thread on avforums.com http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=462873&highlight=black+line+on+plasma&page=4 Read through all the posts. Very simple fix, but you have to have some mechanical inclinations or you can cause more problems than you started with. I was up to 5 of the black lines, but decided to attempt the soldering these guys did and fixed it all for the cost of a soldering iron!

Dry solder joints on the pins of the vertical integrated circuit may have caused this problem Tap each I/C lightly with a plastic screwdriver handle to find the intermittent one. It is the one with a heat sink attached.

I had the same problem to and I fixed it.
At the bottom of the plasma there are six or seven ribbon cabbles that come out of the panel and connect to like driver boards. Each ribbon drives that section of the panel. Mine had it down the centre so I unplugged that ribbon cable and on the underside of a metal plate attached to it there are four big resistors and four small ones. The big ones labelled 100 required resoldering. Once they were resoldered it worked just fine.
