Hey, I have a Dell Notebook and like a lot of people I never shut of my comp when I sleep. I have a question though. Is Hibernating as good as a full shot down, even though Hibernate continues u where u last were when u reboot. Whats better so I dont kill my HDD or comp!!!
Hibernating does just what it says, shutting down will do what it says shut down. While hibernating if you press the power button it will take you back to where you last were.It uses a bit of power but will not run the cpu or hard drive.

go to control panel /appearence personisation /system security go downtoo power optionsedit plan settings (change when comp goes to sleep /change advanced power settingsbox will open power options work way down to power buttons and lid open that up + on battrey open lid close action you will see do nothing open that up and press shut down that will shut down youre comp when lid closes
Power down the computer and power back up. Lets just shut hibernation off...you can always just have the computer sleep...it is much better on the system anyway.
Shutting Down Hibernation Go to the control panel > Power Options > Hibernation tab > uncheck hibernate…this way you save a lot of disc space and don’t have to go through all the intermittent hibernation problems that occur. After you uncheck hibernation, you can go to the other power options and change how the computer reacts to the lid being closed, when it sleeps and for how long before sleep kicks in. Make sure to change the setting for what happens when lid closes to “do nothing” this will keep the laptop alive even though you close the lid to move it, etc.
Based on what you are stating, could be power supply problem. Try replacing power supply adapter that Dell supplies. Go on Dell support page using your computer number and you can see if there are any manufacturers recall on the computer or the power supply.
u sould get any message. if u get thermal heat' it mean u cpu fan is not work properly so ur computer shout down. other option power option is fixed in a same time. kepp never shut down option of ur computer power option
ROB, TRY GOING INTO POWER OPTIONS AND GO THROUGH THE SETTING THERE. IT HAS DIFFERENT SETTING THAT SAY THINGS LIKE " WHEN I CLOSE THE LID ON MY LAPTOP I WANT IN TO GO TO SLEEP" ETC. YOU SHOULD FIND A SETTING THERE THAT HANDLES WHEN I HIT SHUT DOWN I WANT THE COMPUTER TO I.E. SLEEP, HIBERNATE,STANDBY. I THINK YOU SHOULD GET THE IDEA. CHECK THOSE AND SEE IF THIS HELPS SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.
