Question about Washing Machines

Maytag Insignia sounds like a machine gun and then turns off.

Hi,
My maytag Insignia (about 5 years old) sounds like a machine gun, sort of like metal hitting metal, when it spins. Then, it cuts off. I can let it sit for a while and then start it up again, but it does not work like it should anymore. I have a repair man coming out tomorrow to look at it, please help asap! Thanks!!!!

Hi, I have a hotpoint front loader and i have noticed thwe glass door geting scrapes internally where the drum is hitting on the spin cycle. This has been happening for the last 6 months, but it is now making such a bad noise when spinning, i don't want to use it. It sounds like it's also hiiting the side on the spin even though i half just half load in there. Can you let me know what it might be and whether it might be more cost effective to just buy a new one? it's 6 years old.

    Thanks

Sounds very much like the "spider" bracket which supports the drum on the centre shaft has broken. The "spider" is usually 3 alloy arms branching out from just forward of the bearing. It can still support the drum a little with one arm broken and even with two broken but when all three give way the drum is virtually independent of the shaft and bangs around a lot. If you can feel any looseness of the drum (particularly back and forward) it confirms "spider" arm damage. Very expensive to repair - labour intensive and replacement parts not cheap. This is usually a "terminal" problem. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Sounds like it could be a bad bearing or brake package. depending on how much the charge is to repair/replace the part i woild weigh it against purchase of a new machine. either job is labor intensive

SOUNDS LIKE JET PLANE WHEN IT GETS BY RINSE AN SPIN TIME

I assume you mean it sounds like a jet plane when it spins, if so, I suspect a bad tub bearing. Depending on age of the machine, probably too expensive to repair.

Why is my maytag bravos mvwb750wq washer so loud on spin cycle?

Is it moving around? I am guessing not so guess would be the drum is out of balance.

Greetings, during wash cycle machine just stops, timer keepe working, about 14 years old, Does timer control need to be replaced?

Your best bet...Fire it a 12-Gun Spin solute. This unit (because of the name alone), will more than likely exceed the value of itself with the repair. Sounds like a timer-temper. It hits a certain "Dead" spot and just stops.

Knocking sound in the spin cycle off balance.

The motor switch that is mounted on the motor may need replacing. The knocking could mean that the "run" winding is cutting off momentarily, and running on the "start" winding of the motor. I dont know about a 22 year old model, but in most "near modern" machines, the switch has a plastic actuator that is pushed when the motor obtains near-run speed, that plastic may be worn or the actuator part on the motor may be at fault. If you replace the motor, you usually get this switch as part of the deal.

Maytag Neptune MAH6500

Sounds like some sort of broken support or spirng underneath. Flip it over and look. Expect a little water to run out though.
