Help! For years I have come to my office each day and turned on my PC, then placed my Axim X5 in its cradle for syncing to Outlook. No problems. Today, it gave me an error message saying "attention required" and would not sync. I removed it, rebooted the computer and tried again. Same thing. I did a soft reset. Same problem. I even tried a hard reset. Same problem. It will not sync with my calendar and contacts. This is a huge problem since I use the PDA daily for appointments (I'm a university professor). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dell made an entry into the market of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA)
with Axim X5. The Dell Axim comprises of families of X5, X3, X30, X50
and X51. The Dell Axim PDA can be connected to the computer either by
using a cradle or a sync cable. The sync cable connects the device to
the computer directly. Here are the steps for connecting a Dell Axim to
a computer using a sync cable.
Microsoft ActiveSync software must be installed in order to connect the
PDA to the computer. This software is found in the Dell Axim Pocket PC Companion CD.
The Axim X51 PDA has a 36-pin connector, while the X3 has a 22-pin docking connector.
Connect the USB connector found at the end of the sync cable to the computer.
the PDA. If the PDA is not properly cabled to the computer, you will
get the following message: “Connect your device to a computer using a
sync cable or cradle before running the system update. Ensure that
ActiveSync is installed on the computer and that the ActiveSync
connection is successful.”
Ensure that the Dell logo faces upward.
Use the sync cable to set up a partnership, which can be done multiple times when you sign in as a guest.

The backup utility included on your Dell Handheld will backup your data to a storage card. You can restore on your replacement handheld from that storage card.
From your Host PC, you can go to Tools | Backup/Restore and do a backup to the Host PC, and you can then restore after syncing the replacement handheld for the first time.
Does your system detect the handheld? After you connect the cradle or cable to the computer, then you should be prompted to install drivers for the handheld. Make sure that Dell Pocket PC appears in the Device Manager.
It should if you have USB on the W95 machine. ActiveSync is compatable with W95. It worked for me with Outlook 98 on a Win95 laptop synching to a PC2000 PDA (Jornada), however I was using a serial cable.
