Slim console version CECH 3001B...powers up but no sound and no picture on tv...bought a used ps3 off Craigslist last night...made a loud sound when I powered it on...2 discs were in the disc tray...held disc release button, as they came out 1 at a time...now the console powers up...a light comes on...not sure if it is yellow, red, orange etc., as I am color blind...no picture on tv, no audio sound...what to do now ???
The issue with two discs in the tray sounds a little people peculiar and hopefully didn't damage the drive. It could be theYLOD (Yellow Light of Death) in which when you power the console on, it will be solid, then blink, then solid again.
Make sure your HDMI, Composite, or RCA cable is secure. Try different cable types just in case.
You can shipped the system back to Sony and they can exchange it for a refurbished system; check out YouTube videos for some fixes, or look for someone who fixes ps3s on Craigslist

The live wire may be detached,
SoThere may be an internal problem and You can show it to a mechanic nearby you.

bad power supply unit IF you can hear it clicking. You should be able to hear clicking coming from the LEFT side of the PS3.

here's a link to fix it yourself, disassembly required.

Mine just broke today as well, confirmed what it was with the above links.
SOURCE: PS3 light turns GREEN, w/ blinkin BLUE, to YELLOW, to flashin RED
it is fried and needs repairs if you break the seal by trying it yourself you void the warrany
SOURCE: when i power on ps3: light goes green to blue to red (3 beeps)?
This is the yellow light of death i got it some time ago and had to buy a new ps3 there is a way to fix it but i costs more than a new ps3 i had to buy a new one so your screw lol.
SOURCE: PS3 shut off with blinking red light, there is power, ejected cd.
The blinking red light means the system has over heated and normally the system will shut off by itself and will not come back untill cool.(but not in all cases does the system work completely correct in that situation).
The hard disk may possibly have something to do with this occurance, but I honestly doubt it.
It may be the system final moments until it dies but it may be fine.(the normal life span of a ps3 is about 2 yrs.)
If it's not just the system crapping out it may juss be the power supply and I would do some trouble shooting in that area but again,I am doubtful.
Smart thinking about taking the game out and I would advise don't put it back in until you know for sure that the system is good (because honestly MW2 is TOO awesome to risk it!!)
If all else fails, you could call SONY but if they can't fix it over the phone then they will want you to trade for a refurbished system for $150 or if its under warranty it's free.
I hope I have helped and I hope it all works out!!!!

okay, I have had this problem before. It is about manually resetting your display drivers. What you need to do is hold the power button until it beeps twice, then release. Next you need to press the power button until it beeps again. Once that has occured, turn your television to AV and it should display questions about which you would like to use as in HDMI or AV. I hope this helps. Just call Sony and ask should my suggestion not be helpful.
