Thanks, I was sure either I heard it or read it that SE would help protect the XP folks for a bit longer until they figured out what OS to go to. No wonder I was having so much trouble!

Well, what about update adviser, why does that not work? I would like to go to 8 if my wife's programs would support it. It is also a shame to completely dump a well run machine,, but I will have to do more research. Thanks again.

Security essentials does not work with Windows XP. Moreover XP will not be supported OS after the 14th this month. So if you still have XP, it is advisable to move to Win 7

Your xp may not work with windows 7, try vista adviser first, if this work's the great, if not try installing dotNet, i think the up to date one is dotNetFx45, this may not work so you may need a lower version on xp also make sure your service pack is up to date, yes windows xp has finished but if you get the lastest service pack you can still get the up to date securiy up dates, hope this helps, paul.

Acer aspire one aoa150-1283 up grade Win XP to windows 7

Win 7 will use more resources and make it slower. It is a nice netbook, but still a netbook. Plus you need to consider drivers for, LAN, sound, and video.

Try testing with Win 7 advisor,

AFTER INSTALLATION THERE'S NO SOUND in windows seven

Did you run the windows 7 upgrade advisor before upgrading to win 7?
I am asking you this because in most of the cases when the drivers are not available in win 7 then that wizard helps you knowing it. You might have to reinstall the drivers once again because the drivers are not installed automatically in win 7 installation, they need to be installed explicitly.

I can't install any kind of os aside from windows xp,what is the problem?my laptop is a centrino model... pls.help me,tnx...

I'm assuming that you are upgrading XP to Win 7 just a guess. You have to download the upgrade advisor from Microsoft first it will set the upgrade in motion. Click Here to get the upgrade download. If you have computer experience with computer upgrading there are other ways to go about it however you will have to completely wipe the drive and set the disc in the drive and make sure it boots to DVD or CD ROM as the first boot. So if you are not good at this go with the advisor purchase a legal copy of Win 7 so that you have a legal serial.
Then you may have to hunt for a driver or two. Win 7 is usually great with upgrading drivers during the install make sure that you are online doing the upgrade. I hope this assists you. If you have the original disc for the lap top it has all of the drivers and software that came with your purchase. If you have issues with drivers just use the drivers discs that came with your computer to re-install them. Great question!

I am using toshiba l310 laptop with windows xp installed onit.NOW I WANT TO CHANGE MY OPERATING SYSTEM FROM XP TO WINDOWS 7,MY QUESTION IS THAT CAN I USE SAME DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS 7 WHICH I USE ON XP ...

You will need new drivers for Win 7. Before attempting to go to Win 7, run the Microsoft Upgrade Advisor and see what issues it lists: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=161223 (since laptops have on-board video that may be an issue). You will be doing a custom install from XP and have to reinstall all of your programs and drivers - many will be available. Several XP programs will not install in Win7 without some work (compatability mode or the XP mode virtual machine (in Pro or Ultimate). Upgrading your software may be needed unless you have the latest version that supports XP through Win7 or want to do the work-arounds.

In addition you would be wise to check for any BIOS updates for your specific machine and apply those. Windows 7 is a good OS if you have 2 GB or more of memory. It can run with less but it isn't better than XP in that case. The biggest difference is that Win7 will be supported by Microsoft for updates for a longer period (patches); XP will lose that support in the next few years.

I hope this helps.

(I converted an XP desktop to Win7. However, my video card could handle the OS and I have 2.5 GB of memory and a Windows Experience Index of 3.9 from the system.)
