Each soft close 'Barrel' is handed - one left - one right. (One is grey - the other white).

Most soft close errors occur because the seat hinges come loose. When this happen, the barrels slightly pull-out of the seat. (There are silver discs on the barrels - These should be tight against the seat).

Once the barrels become loose the first thing that happens is the top cover won't soft close - but the seat still does.

To rectify - puch both barrels tighly into fitting and tighten the hinges. (See below).

To tighen the seat hinges you need to get a flat headed screwdriver underneath the chrome round hinge cover - and 'flick off'. Underneath is a X head screw which id also hexagonal. You can either tighen both by spanner - or screw driver. (sometimes these can be tricky - but it will come off).

If both cover AND seat do not soft close AND the barrel silver discs are firmly located against the seat - the barrel has probably broken.

If so - spare parts can be obtained here:

Hi, I am replacing a rounded BTW toilet seat and the measurements are: between holes=150mm, width=370mm, length=430mm. I bought a Ceso Rue Softclose from B&Q as per this description http://w

I believe the European standard for distance between fixing holes is 155mm +/- 10 mm. I am not familiar with the actual products you are using, but often these holes are slightly oversize. Your seat may fit depending on this, as well as on the actual diameter of the fixing bolts. You have two options - try it or not. If you don't try it I assume you'll return it. If you do try it and it doesn't fit, you'll return it. You might as well try it, because if it fits, you're done! Good luck.

Subway toilet, can't access soft close lid under toilet?

You will need to remove the toilet and access the bolts from inside the enclosure. It is a dirty job.... good luck!

attach 2X4s behind it to ensure its stable. I had same problem but used that wood to reinforce it (covered with hardy board & paint) and reattached it and wall is very strong and toilet does not move.

I'm looking for round buffers that fit below the toilet seat to stop the seat resting on the toilet bowl. The brand is Gala.

Lowes or HD should have that or a specialty shop. Worst case, the mfr. would have that. You can take the plastic caps that cover the bolts that hold down the bowl in place on the floor and secure them to the seat. All you want is it to support the seat. There won't be any sideways pressure on it. It would just slide on the bowl if it did. If the cap is too tall for the seat, then you can grind it down some to level the seat.

The Toto maple softclose round front toilet seat bangs against the back of the toilet upon rising from seat.

Try buying some cheap foam tape and place some on both the cover and the seat. Any hardware store should have it. Something similar to this:

How can I replace toilet seat for the Subway model? It does not seem accessible without taking the toliet down

There are little toggle bolts hidden at the back underneath the seat. The location and the image is shown in this PDF:

It's difficult to describe how to disconnect them but pretty easy to figure out just fiddling with them once you find them.

Good luck.
