Dryer won't Start

Dryer is 2-1/2/ years old. Two days ago, I did several loads of wash and the dryer worked fine for everything. Yesterday I did a small load of wash, put the clothes in the dryer and pushed the start button... nothing happened.
All the panel lights light up, the knobs and buttons to change settings work, but when the start button is pressed... nothing.
I verified that there is current to the dryer, and reset the circuit breaker for the 220v going to the dryer. All looks fine. Looked in users manual at troubleshooting guide and it said that it could be the "Thermal limiter was tripped" and to call service for replacement.
Called Sears and made appointment to have service man come out next week.
This morning, I decided to push the start button just for the heck of it. The dryer came on !!! I know it's Halloween...Are we possessed, or what???
I let the dryer run for 45 minutes in no heat mode just to see if the motor would "kick out" after heating up or something, but it seemed to work fine.
Any suggestions here?... I'm certain that this will happen again.

Actually, I checked for that. This is really weird. It has stopped working again on several occassions. I can press the button and nothing happens. I can walk to another room, come back, press the button, and it starts. I've stood in front of it, pressed the button, watched it start, then pressed the pause button. If I do this 10 times, 3 of the ten times the unit will not start. This is really annoying, becaue sometimes when it won't start, I can try it for 5 minutes, and it won't do a thing. But if I come back in 10 minutes, it might start again. I've made sure the door is engages and the door switch is activated, etc.

I can't figure out what would be so intermiittent as to act like this.

Have been having the same problem, only it seems to be getting worse with time. The dryer is almost 3 years old...have been having the problem for about 4 months, so I guess it started after 2 1/2 years. The interior light works, the knobs beep and light up as usual when turned; the buttons beep and light up when pressed. BUT, when you press START, it only beeps....the dryer doesn't start. Usually, eventually it will start after trying many, many, many times; but sometimes it is a whole day before it will start. If anyone has a definite solution, I'd love to hear it!

The problem might be the start switch itself. if the switch is going bad it could have either a carbon buildup on the contacs preventing it from starting (unlikely) or the contacs are wearing out and it is more hit or miss if it will start. as time goes on the problem will get wose

U might check you connections at the dryer and take cap off receptical plug in and check for loose wire or a connection anything thats looks brown or burnt....

thats all i can think of at this point .. I have had simular situations where it would be a burn side of the cord.. receptical, or even just a little loose or burn... where connection was lost at different times driving me batty...

hope u can find something.. i know how crazy it seems... makes ya think its got a ghost in it or mind of its own... lol

The worked fine 2 days ago then went to use it

Hi there,  I'm not sure if you've had your dryer fixed yet, but it sounds like the heat exhanger (which is located on the lower right front side of your machine. To clean this, you must first disconnect the power cord from the wall. Next, you slowly remove this and clean it thoroughly with running water. After you wash it, let it dry completely - and then insert it back into the machine. It's a good idea to write down the steps you took in removing it, so when you put it back - it will make it easier. If it's not inserted right, your door won't close - so that's why it's important to jot down the steps when you removed it. Hopefully, this has been taken care of already. But if not, feel free to contact me. Also, it's a good practice to change the lint trap before or after each load. This machine is very sensitive to it, which is good - because it's protecting it and its longevity. Good Luck!

One says the lid switchs are not working in tandem with each other. Another says the circuit board is bad. I say it is because it is a Maytag and built with an obsolete ethical plan for generating profit.

My Dryer not that old, takes all day to dry a small load.

Check the following areas thoroughly to address this issue.

1. Venting
Make sure the dryer vent hose, as well as the rest of the vent duct, is not clogged.

Unless regular maintenance is performed, chances are there is a lot of lint accumulated inside the dryer. This might affect the drying time and could be a fire hazard. Make sure to have your dryer cleaned regularly. Because this might involve taking most of the dryer apart, it is recommended to have a qualified appliance repairman perform this task.

2. Thermostat
There are a couple of cycling thermostats inside the dryer. If one of them breaks down, it might affect the dryer's performance. Replace the defective thermostat.

3. Heating element
A heating element might only be partially burned out, in which case it would still work but will take longer time to dry the clothes. Replace the element if found defective.

Wash machine sometimes gets stuck on rinse cycle & dryer not dry

Sounds like the drain hose for the washer is too far down in the stand pipe at the wall causing a siphon effect, try raising drain hose a little. The dryer sounds like the vent line from back of dryer too wall is pinched causing an air flow obstruction. Hope this helps.
