I cleaned my ionic breeze Quatra professional series as I have many times and plugged it in it worked. A few hrs later I noticed it was not working and I checked the GFI circuit. But still no luck.  Any help out there?

Cleaned the blades on my TWO Quadras & put them back in after dry. Have done this many times. This time neither of them will work. What should I do?

    Thanks, Joan

Same Problem as the others. Have had my Sharper Image Quadra about 2 months. Clean it at least once every 10 days. The last time I cleaned it, put it back together, the "cleaning overdue" light keeps blinking and the unit will not work.

Same problem. Cleaned the blades in two Sharper Image Professional Plus Midi machines and now the red light comes on almost instantly and units stop working. Help please. Can anything be done?

Same problem with the Quadra. Red light blinks within 2 minutes. The machine is as clean as it was new. Is there a solution? This was not a cheap machine.

This class action case was apparently settled in Jan 2007 and the consumers (you and me if we were still eligible to make a claim) get a whopping $19 credit/voucher. Here is an excerpt from the article linked above:

"Under the proposed settlement disclosed Friday in a regulatory filing, Sharper Image will offer $19 merchandise credits to each of the roughly 3.2 million consumers who have bought one of its "Ionic Breeze" purifiers since May 6, 1999.

The ultimate cost of the settlement will hinge on how many of the eligible customers redeem the merchandise vouchers, Sharper Image said in Securities and Exchange Commission documents.

The merchandise credits can be applied toward the purchase of other Sharper Image-branded products for a year after they are issued. "

Somehow I don't think this is any kind of adequate compensation.

  • Anonymous Jun 23, 2008

I have the same problem. when I saw the red light on and I cleaned the grid . But after I replaced it a few hours, I saw the red light still blinking, and it does't work now. Please help me, i just bought it three mouths ago.

  • Anonymous Sep 04, 2008

It's pretty sad we all have the same problem with these inferior machines and nothing is being done. If Sharper Image continues to do nothing they will soon be out of business. Is there no one who will take responsibitly from the company? It seems no one cares.

I have a Sharper Image Professional Plus Ionic Breeze Midi Silent

Air Purifier and after I clean the blades the red light indicater immediately comes back on indicating the cleaning is overdue, and the product does not start working again. I need advice on how to repair the air purifier.

    model # s1719

  • judikoubsky Nov 05, 2008

I removed the outside grilles and carefully cleaned the inside and turned back and forth to move the beads that clean the wires. There is not a speck of dust anywhere, yet the red light comes on and the unit will not work. It is a Professional Plus Ionic Breeze Midi and was a very expensive unit. No one locally will repair it.

  • Anonymous Nov 07, 2008

No matter how carefully I clean it, the red light comes back on and it doesn't catch anything anymore.

After I cleaned my unit. The light is still showing and it is not cleaning

  • standouglas Nov 27, 2008

Yesterday mine went on the fritz with the red light. I spent the better
part of the day and am now able to completely disassemble the S1853 and
put it back together. It is tricky getting the top piece off and you
needed to do that in order to get the sides off. Once I figured the
dis-assembly out, I tried re soldering all of the solder joints on both
circuit boards on the top and on the bottom. I was hoping I had a cold
solder joint. On the bottom circuit board (high voltage) there was a
resister that was showing the effects of overheating. After reassembly
it functions the same; i.e., turn it on and and it operates for a few
seconds and then the red LED comes on and it stops circulating air.
Without a schematic I'm afraid it's toast as I have no idea what
controls the cleaning circuit. I think a day ago I smelled a faint
electronic odor so I was hoping the defective component would be
    obvious...not!

One post mentioned cleaning the parallel wires. I've even cleaned mine
with alcohol to no avail. I have scoured the internet for the schematic
to no avail. I'm afraid it is now scrap.

my proffesional plus ionic breeze quadra gp stopped working all of a sudden even after i cleaned it

  • fterbirth Mar 22, 2009

the red 'cleaning overdue' light is always on. The silver blades never collect any dust, even after a large fire came through the area. I hear a slight whirring sound when turned on which fades and disappears after a second.

I have 2 units, and had this same issue happen 3 times. Tonight it happened with a forth, last time i had to talk to management to get it replaced outside of warranty. Ionic breeze has major quality issues, and I would NOT buy anything else from sharper image. They also reduced the warranty from the original model drastically. for the price these were, they should be covered lifetime to show their commitment to their product. there is also a class action lawsuit against sharper image, for their false claims for the product...i believe sharper image chose to settle.

Same here - I have an Ionic Breeze Midi silent air purifier - I have cleaned this machine multiple times (even with thorough clean with air dryer, air canister, q-tips, etc) and the red light comes on automatically. I was going crazy - at least I know it is the machine now...
I agree, a very expensive purchase for such a short life....

Is everyone covered in this class action law suit or do you have to file something?

A $19 voucher will do me no good as I wouldn't buy anything else from them, plus I'm out $528 for the two pieces of junk I have here!!

When clean the filter in one hour the machine stop and i need clean back

clean the metal filter grid blades with a long strip of scotch brite pad and also clean the corona wires in the back of the unit very gently with light grade sandpaper. i had this problem and tried cleaning my unit so many times that i was ready to toss it into the trash. now it works normally. i did some spray painting in the room where the unit was operating and believe it picked up a coating of paint causing the sparking. good luck!

My ionic breeze doesnt seem to blow any air at all cleaning light stays off Is this normal?

best best is to unplug the unit, and clean the blades completely with a damp cloth, then wait a few for the blades to dry and put them back in the unit. usually cleaning these every 2 to 3 weeks and they should be kept clean to be effective at removing the contaminants in the air. theirs alot of controversy over thease untis thease day's butthey do fuction properly if kept in top condition. also note that the blades must be properly seated in the houseing to work. safty feature that if bumped or knocked down it will cause the system to mostlikly stop working till you pull the blades out and put them back inj. i observed this myself with a model and they are failry good quality but a pain to clean. good luck with it.

What does a blinking blue light indicate?

"A blinking light indicates when the blades should be wiped clean with a damp cloth." I actually had a "handyman" contract last year to visit an elderly gentleman once a month and clean all 9 of his Ionic Breeze GP air purifiers. Before I did that for him, they would make hissing noises and he really didn't like that. Here's how to clean the operative compnents of these machines: First, unplug the machine and place on a work surface, such as a table or kitchen counter. Second, remove the metal blade insert from the top by gripping the release tab and lifting it up and out. Also remove the front and back grilles by pressing on the plastic tab at the bottom and lifting up on them. Third, use a damp rag or paper towel to wipe the three metal blades clean. Do not immerse this assembly in water, because it has to be completely dry when re-installing it in the machine. Fourth, use a small piece of damp paper towel to VERY GENTLY wipe clean the two thin wires inside the unit. These are located behind the two rubbery flat blades just inside the unit and can be accessed from the front side. You won't damage these rubbery flat blades by pushing your hand gently between them, but be VERY CAREFUL when wiping the wires clean. (This step is important, as the wires must be clean.) Fifth, using another bit of damp paper towel, carefully clean the wire attached to the inside of the front grille. Dry this off with a dry bit of paper towel, then clean any accumulated dirt off the front & back grilles. Check the metal contact near the bottom of the front grille (attached to the wire) to verify that it's clean and will make good electrical contact. Sixth, pick the unit up and turn it upside-down & right-side up about 6 to 8 times. The two wires inside have plastic beads on them that slide up and down the wires. This brushes any bits of leftover dust or lint off of the wires. (Again, these wires must be VERY clean.) Seventh, replace the front and back plastic grilles by placing them in their slots and sliding them down to snap into place. Verify that the assembly with the three metal blades is COMPLETELY dry, using a hair dryer if necessary to dry off damp areas, then slide it back into place from the top of the machine. Now the cleaning process is done, so plug the unit in and turn it on to test operation. If it makes ANY noise, then some component is not completely cleaned off, or still has a presence of moisture, which must be completely dried off before the machine is ready for operation. Hope this helps! ;)

Ionic pro won't turn on

Solution, perhaps...

All electrical contacts can get a film on them. Try cleaning the contacts (at the bottom of the blade unit; you should see the three with the blades out) with an alcohol swab (make sure the contacts are dry before reassembly in this case) or a pencil eraser (vacuum the debris out before attempting to start it again).

If those contacts don't make up properly, the unit will think it needs cleaning, even though it doesn't.
