SOURCE: Radio not receiving on any channel

Hi Mike,

The manual for this radio (in Adobe .pdf format) is available for download directly from Icom America, free of charges.

Since the "AquaQuake" function works and you do hear static when the squelch is off, that is sufficient to let us know that the voice coil of the speaker is functional and should produce sounds with the right signal applied.

The first thing to determine is if you're close enough to another operating transmitter for the radio to receive a signal. One of the 10 weather channels the radio is capable of tuning should be close enough produce some intelligible audio from the speaker - assuming the squelch setting isn't set too high.

If a WX channel works, then you'll need to see if there's a VHF Marine band transmitter operating nearby. You might need to set another Marine band radio receiver up to verify that there is indeed a signal present on the particular Marine band channel that you're monitoring. A list of frequencies is published on pg 27 (of the manual linked above) in case you need to convert between channel and frequency to tune on a non-channelized radio.

Outside of that, there's little the end user can do without specialized test equipment, schematics and of course, training. Many shops will be happy to provide an estimate for repair when provided with a small bench diagnostic fee. This fee is usually applied towards an authorized repair by most reputable repair shops.

I hope this helps & good luck!

My icom ic-7100 will receive on one DV repeater and will not receive and uhf or vhf repeaters

Have you checked your settings on your receiver to see if they match the repeater you can't receive? CTCSS, DCS, and the digital radio settings can all affect this.

Cp200 squeel

This is called feedback. The audio output from the other radio is feeding back through your microphone. Turn the volume down on the radio at a comfortable listening level, and do not transmit when in close proximity. If they can hear you speak, you do not need to transmit.

Galaxy dx959 will not receive. Speaker is working. S meter is showing incoming signal.

the over power doides may be blown. you should start there .they should be marked D-1 and D-2. you may want to replace them with diodes of a higher rating.

I have an ICOM IC M505 marine VHF which is the closest model to the one described below. It is less than 3 years old. The channels have been very quiet including channel 16. This prompted me to test the...

Probably not the squelch but the speaker on the VHF. These radios are famous for crapping out when getting wet.
Try listening to the weather radio VHF ch 01, 02, or 03. depending on your location and play with squelch.. Keep in mind they do make external speakers you can hook up.

Baby monoitor reciever piking up no sound or delayed sound - link light flashing

A delay may be caused by interference from other radio sources. I heard of one case where a woman's cell phone call overpowered the transmit power of her baby monitor.

Other things that can cause interference or other receiver problems:
1. monitor in contact or close proximity to running appliances or their cords. (induced electromagnetic field)
2. neighbor with baby monitor on same channel ('cross-talk')
3. distance between transmitter and receiver too far (the strength of a radio signal fall dramatically over larger distances. think of how often you lose cell phone coverage)
4. reduced power: low battery strength or cooked power supply
5. transmitter or receiver insulated from signal (if your monitor was transmitting/receiving through any metal obstruction)

Have Cobra 29 LTD CB Radio w/ bluetooth. Power comes on. Does not receive or transmit. What's wrong?

Sounds like the PLL circuit....... no channel synthesizer will kill the transmit and receive...... bad crystal or IC could be at fault or if someone has attempted to add more channels could also be cause.
