Yes, the steering wheel can be replaced. If the original retaining clip is missing, you will need to use a screw with a nut of some kind to fasten the steering wheel to the column. Insert the new steering wheel into the hole on the toy car, then place a new clip or screw into the hole on the steering wheel shaft, and fasten with a nut to secure.
Sounds like he's too big to use it. The steering wheel was either displaced by "kneeing" it out of place or he probably sat down on it and broke it. I think it's time to get a tricycle, you can find one with two modes of steering. It will also be safer to ditch in emergencies.
Not a solution but I wondered if you ever sorted this? I have same problem with one front wheel only... Just seems too snug a fit to the main body...? Any suggestions?
