Our tv made a loud high pitched noise for a few weeks and then the color went green to then shutting off. Now, when we try to turn on the tv, the light blinks and then it just shuts off and keeps repeating until you shut it off manually.

Samsung dlp tv HLP5663W makes loud noise

Yes, the set uses a color wheel and the lamp faces it.

The wheel turns at over 8,000 rpm and is well known for this problem=bearings in the tiny motor go bad.

The high pitched or fan like noise (classic description) is this part.

Sooner or later the wheel (plastic colored segments) will shatter and set will shut down lamp and not operate---set monitors the speed of the wheel so if it slows down or stops it knows.

The part is readily available on the internet (Google the model number with "color wheel").

This can be a do it yourself repair and You Tube has video instructions for replacing the wheel by model number.

There are two common pitfalls to avoid which the instructions that come with the replacement part usually do not mention---if you decide to do this repair let me know and I will explain.

I have Samsung DLP TV 50 inch HL-P5063W

First thing to look at is the color wheel this model uses--usually it will make a high pitched fan like sound but can make a grinding sound also.

If it slows down from the 12,000 or so RPM speed it will cause color issues.

HAVE GRINDING OR HIGH PITCHED SOUND?

this might be a noisy color wheel . this is a motorized wheel that produces the color in the set. it could be something else because of your statement of picture is ok. if it the color wheel the set will eventally shut down. this part used to be avalible and fairly easy to replace. it has got harder to locate. The other possibilites includes a small leaky capacitor in the powers supply but that is more like a whine. a tech would have to take the back off and locate the noise.. i believe this unit might have 2 fans and a color wheel. three moving motors.. anything that moves eventally dosnt

HL-R6768W not turning on. High pitch spin sound. Bad color wheel?

The high-pitched whine is definitely the color wheel.  The early color wheels had problems and many had to be replaced.  As part of the turn-on process, the TV checks for light and then checks for color wheel sync.  If the bearings are wearing out/dried out, it could cause issues with getting the proper color wheel sync, causing the set to not pass the turn on sequence.
Check Sears or partstore.com for a color wheel.  I like sears for experimental replacements since they allow easy returns.
BTW, mine is an early 61".  My color wheel was replaced when I had to replace my Light Engine.  My in-laws 50" was an early one and theirs went out within 2 years.

Toshiba 56HM195 56 in HD DLP Loud Buzzing and color distortion

If the sound, sounds more like a Hum with some vibration chances are the Cooling fan located behind the lamp is going bad, about $20 to repair, if its a high pitch hum most likely the Color Wheel and if thats the case about $30.
Good luck, my fan just went bad now seeing green dots everywhere, so debating on just junking it out or fixing it, with winter coming on might just breakdown and buy LCD and say the heck with DLP from now on.
Good luck to you..
