Paper shredder doesn't move due to too much adhesive paper - how to fix it

Before trying anything I suggest, make sure your shredder isn't plugged in.
You will need to remove the adhesive from the rollers. You will need to use a glue solvent on the shredder rollers, something like Goo Be Gone. Personally, I still use Ronsonol Lighter Fluid In the image below I've outlined the supplies you'll need to, hopefully, clear your jam.

25346531-f3timxio4jyou4u0bydnlgfi-2-0.jpg Without disassembling your shredder, the best way to clear your jam is to use Rosonol Lighter Fluid (3), tweezers (4), and dental picks (5).
  1. Make sure you are working in a well ventilated area. Separate the shredder from its shredded paper collection tub.
  2. Turn the shredder head upside down so that the paper output is facing up.
  3. Pour Rosonol lighter fluid on both sides of the rollers near where they come together.
  4. Use dental picks and tweezers to dislodge stuck paper pieces
  5. Turn Shredder head over and repeat steps 3 and 4
  6. Move power switch to the "Off" position
  7. Plug power cable back in
  8. Move power switch to "Rev" (reverse) position, if still stuck move power switch to the "Fwd" position, repeat twice
  9. Repeat steps 1 - 8 until the rollers move freely
Once the rollers are moving smoothly you need to oil the rollers.

My shredder squeaks when in use, does it need regular lubrication? If so, what do I use?

Visit the link below for various types of shredder oils.
http://www.factory-express.com/Shredder_Oil__Bags-2025.htm
Regular use of paper shredders creates paper dust that can dry out components, dull the blades, clog the machine and burn out the motor. However, with proper oiling and maintenance, a paper shredder can last for years.
Oiling a shredder can be accomplished using one of two quick methods. The paper method limits excess oil to the paper, reducing the chance of it splattering when you turn the machine back on. This method is more common than the second and can be used with all kinds of shredders. The paperless method may be less common, but it is just as effective at removing dust buildup from the blades of the shredder.
The Paper Method:1. Place a sheet of paper on or above a surface that will not be marred or damaged should you spill oil on it.2. Apply the oil to one side of the paper in a wide zigzag pattern across the whole face of the page to ensure sufficient coverage. Do not saturate the paper with oil.
3. Turn the shredder on and run the oiled piece of paper through the shredder. As the paper shreds, the oil that has been absorbed by the paper will lubricate the blades. The motion of the blades will distribute oil so the shredder continues to operate smoothly.
3. Feed a few more papers into the shredder to absorb residual oil from the cutting assembly. The Paperless Method:1. Set the shredder to manual mode so you can control the direction of the blades and the amount of time the blades are in motion.2. With the paper shredder turned off, squirt a solid line of oil into the paper entry lengthwise across the paper-shredder blades.
3. Start
the paper shredder in reverse, allowing it to run for 10 to 20 seconds before stopping the blades. This will evenly distribute the oil to all parts of the cutting assembly.
4. Return
the shredder to automatic mode. Then feed two or three sheets of paper into it to absorb the excess oil from the machine. Tip:
How often you should oil your paper shredder depends mostly on how much you use it. Office shredders that see heavy use every day will need to be oiled several times a week, while home machines used occasionally need be oiled only a few times a year. Cross-cut shredders will require more frequent oiling than other paper shredder varieties because they have more blades and create much more paper dust.
You can purchase a shredder lubricating oil from any major electronic or office supplies store or you can contact Royal customer service at 908-429-4357.

I purchased Shredder Model BD-S600 on 5/6/11. This was to replace another Black & Decker Shredder that I had for only a few months also. Today, when i attempted to turn shredder on to shred some...

If it's like my BD-S600 your motor is already burned out!! Same thing happened to me with this shredder after 3 months of minimal home use. I had to call them and pay $13 to send shredder back to them to have a new one sent to me, and I have already been on the phone with customer service due to problems with the new one after 5 minutes of use! Good luck to you; I know I will NEVER purchase a Black and Decker shredder again! My last shredder (a Brother) lasted 8 years with no problems and I really miss it!!

I have a Ativa DQ60M Paper Shredder and it is very clogged with paper and it looks like some of the blades are slightly bent. Can it be sent in for repair or warranty?

Take away info: 3-year warranty on cutter.

Office Depot item #405935: Ativa DQ83M Diamond-Cut Shredder (mine show model ...Mn. It has a 1-year warranty for product, BUT ALSO a 3-year warranty for the "cutting cylinders". Call 1-877-777-HELP; www.ativaproducts.com .
I called 12-29-2010. Rep had difficulty finding product, put me on hold, found it. Said prod only has 1-yr w (per Office Depot online, this is all that is given as to info); but I said, no, 3-yr on cutter. I held again, rep researched and agreed. I took a case number and tried rep's troubleshooting suggestion: I put 3-in-1 oil (veg oil suggested by rep too) on the jammed shredded paper (machine still would go in reverse BTW); I let it soak 5 mins, removed paper, tried shredding, and paper jammed again. No replacement parts are avl. I called again, gave case number. Rep suggested I oil the cutter now that paper was removed. I said cutters are oiled from removing paper. I was put on hold, only a short while.

Good outcome thus far: I was given fax number and instructions to receive gift card in 6-8 weeks upon their receipt of my fax (to 1-888-561-0785) of case number, name (first and last), mailing address, and copy of the receipt.

What I learned: Do the maintenance oiling monthly or more if needed! Try to buy a shredder that is beyond my shred needs, e.g., a 10-sheet cutter but use it only up to 8 pages. Try to buy a shredder that has replacement parts.

The price of the Ativa in 2008 was $40 ($30 instant savings taken at the register), and it didn't get daily or regular use.

Good product support on this Ativa product. Glad I saved my manual and receipt!!

Ativa CX10B shredder starts but as soon as the paper goes in a short distance, it quits! It will reverse but only make it through a sheet by turning to off position and wait 3 seconds and then back on. ...

Have you run oiled paper through the shredder? If not you need to do so. Office depot will sell you the oil and tell you how to use it.
You can also hand feed a sheet of paper until it trips the paper sensors. Don't let the paper get into the cutters and let the machine run until it clears itself.
If the shredder is old (over a year old) your motor may have bad bearings. Is it noisier then usual. If so the bearings are shot.
If they are shot and you are out of warranty you are out of business. This is chinese junk and so far I have been unable to find parts.
Hope this helps.

Shredder won't turn off

The sensors probably need replacing. Most larger Fellowes shredders come with a three year warranty. It will not hurt to use it the way you are using it.

Won't Turn on

Yes...these small shredders are only meant for light use....5 minutes ON..10 mins OFF to let it cool down, thats the nature of a $60 or $70 shredder.
Commercial shredders start at $250 and go up. But you dont have to wait for them to cool down.
Common sense still says you must buy the right machine for the job...even if you only use it 2 times a year..it depends on the amount of paper you shred..not the number of times you use it.
Anyway...if it won't turn on at all its most likely the pcb inside....contact Royal for parts and pricing at 1-800-524-0799.

Fellowes P-45C shredder

Janet,

Shredders need oil. You must oil the cutters every 500 or so pages or jams like this one will cause the blades to seize. If you haven't been oiling it at least monthly when not using it, it will also jam in the manner you describe. Care and feeding of a shredder is very important. Also, its considered a non-warranty repair if the oiling is not being done. However, call Fellowes directly to see what you can work out.

Machine Died?

We had the same problem at our office. Our machine is also about 1 year old. We checked the warranty and it is covered under a 3 year manufacturer warranty.

The repair person said that the whole motor gave out and they are replaceing it with a new one.

Get it fixed for free.....its still under warranty.....

Hope this helps.
