Trane XR12 Heat doesnt work after 15minutes of operation

When I set my thermostat to heat, the heat turns on and the air temp is hot from the registers but after about 15minutes of operation I notice the air temp from the register starts to cool to room temp more or less. also there is a noise coming from the outdoor unit that sounds like pressure venting. this seems to coincide with the cooling of the air in heat mode

Sounds to me like the outdoor unit is malfunctioning. Could be a control board going crazy, could be the reversing valve leaking. A trouble call to the local contractor is the best idea, preferably a firm that deals with your brand.

Will Temp Gage Register any Temp? or is it just an Idiot Light?
If this is the case then You will need to run till it reaches Approximate Operating Temp, Generally 15 mins will get you there @ idle,Feel Hoses from Radiator, Are they HOT? then if you can reach Heater Hoses { usually 1/2 in/ 34 in hose } Are They HOT?, Are You getting Air out of the Vents? Is it Hot or Cold? Check AntiFreeze LVL's in Expansion Tank, Is it Full? or Empty? If Empty Fill With Recommended fluid Mixture

That's a complicated system that needs a qualified technician to service it. Lots of people can install them and they run fine, for a few years. Your indoor unit, operating on 2 heat elements, will feel like its blowing cold air even though its heating, just not so well. And not like you are accustomed to. Each element (5kw)=22.7amps, on average. So 3 elements operating should trip a breaker. Its probably been operating on 2 heat element plus the heat pump. And now you have trouble with the heat pump. If you can't TRUST the guys working on your equipment, try someone else. A second opinion. Normally a 3 or 4 ton unit will have 15kw heat installed, heatpump or not. 5 ton, 20kw. If yours is a 3-4ton, cooling, the 100amp(or normally two 60 amp) breaker should have been installed upon equipment change out. If yours is blowing cold all the time, something is wrong with your heatpump. The electric heat inside operates only when the heatpump can't keep up(real cold outside), the heatpump is in defrost(then it's actually in cooling mode), or if you have the tstat in aux/em. heat. Try a local trane dealer? Of a technician with 15-20 yrs under their belt. A trane dealer should have trane tech support also. BIG HELP!!!

Trane xr12 heat pump switching to aux

Sounds like the compressor is not running. Possibly a bad capacitor. Check system in cooling, see if it cools. If it does cool then you likely have a reversing valve issue. Good Luck!!

Hello, this is usually caused by a sticking fan relay on the intergrated comtrol board. You may be able to tap on it to shut it off but eventually the control board will need to be replaced.

make sure the engine is getting to operating temp (195f) you may need the heater core "flushed" and coolant replaced, usually flushing the core will fix that IF the air temp doors are working correctly.

My Trane thermostat (TCONT600AF11MAA) is supposed to have 1.5 degrees of heat pump "rest" above the desired setting before turning on the heat pump. The thermometer reading does not change yet...

Friend! All thermostat is calibrated to cut in and cut off at the end of - or + 1 degree end.
Example: If you set 23 degree, it will cut off in 21 degree and cut in @25 degree. So accordingly you set the temp.
Secondly, don't set temp near to your room temp.Minimum difference should be 3 degree. If your room temp 12 degree, set at least 15 degree for heat and if room temp 28, set at least 25 degree for cool.
