If the burning smell is an electrical smell it could be motor or wiring problems which are best handled by a professional. If it smells like burning rubber it is probably the belt. If it smells like burnt wood it could be the belt slipping on the brush roll, if the brush roll is made of wood. Dust and debris can also accumulate behind the end caps of the brush roll causing friction which can cause a burning wood smell.

My kenmore whispertone vacuum has a weird smell

The motor may be burning out. Excessive current drain through the cord would cause it to become warm.

My Kenmore model 116 33300300C smells like burning when we use it. The bag has been replaced

If it is a burning rubber smell it may be the belt slipping. Make sure your brushes are clean and spin freely and then put the belt back on and see if that helps.

The motor in the Kenmore canister started smelling like wire burning and then made terrible noise. I ordered the exact replacement motor and swapped them. Installed the same way the original came out, ran...

Hi,

Actually there not supposed to burn up. I have read some reviews on that model Kenmore and it seems it is plagued by electrical problems.

I would definitely contact Sears customer service.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The motor makes a weird sound and starts to heat and smell like something is burning

If the motor sounds scratchy and is making a burning smell, or sparking you will need to replace the motor or the entire vac. Carbon brushes will rarely fix this as it is a high RPM motor

Had a burning smell coming from the vacuum. Opened it up and noticed sparks in the motor area. Ordered a new motor from Sears and replaced it. Works great now.

Thr brushes are not spinning and it smells

That is your belt burning, turn the vacuum upside down and make sure your brush is spinning freely. Something may be wedged in your brush.
