Most like ly the cables for the monitor are getting hung up on the hinges, when the lid opens, the hinges are pulling either the main video cable loose from the motherboard on the left side, or the inverter wiring is getting pulled free from the right side. Below is the service manual that will show you how to disassemble the laptop down to the point where you can inspect, reseat and free the hung up cables...or if some of the cables have been rubbed through, tape them up with electrical tape, heat shrink tubing or replace the cables with new ones.
Today, after speaking to the Sansui Manufacturer representative from Japan. He stated that all you need to do is to turn off the closed caption from the TV remote and not the DVR remote. Black screen can occur at the top half or the bottom half of the screen depending on how it was originally setup during installation. Try this and hopefully this fixes the problem.
sounds like power supply caps or caps in the dm board http://www.auctioncreations.com/wd62525a.JPG
The DM board is the one with the digital connectors on the back panel. If you already have it appart, you may as well check the caps on all of the boards. The caps that go bad are typically Jamicon brand caps in 1000 uF and 330 uF values. There are also a couple of 3300 uF caps in the PS that cause problems.
