Solution for the stability problem

GE and RCA SR-3 production suffers from an ill-advised change in tuning potentiometer. It causes the tuning to be unstable - the radio is almost unusable due to difficulty in tuning to stations and the radio has difficulty staying on stations.

The value of the pot is a bit unusual - 300k. I have found that a 500k pot, with 470 fixed resistors across each leg (low to middle, middle to high) allows the radio to tune the entire AM and FM bands, although dial calibration is really bad. The tuning voltage high and low pots will need to be adjusted at the very least, and the whole front end will probably need re-alignment.

I have modified at least a half a dozen of these radios this way, Fry's has an appropriate pot but the shaft is aluminum and needs to be machined. The radios are as stable as early production SR-3's, and are fine DX units.

The FM section can also benefit greatly from the narrow ceramic filter modification. I can routinely use the radio for stations over 100 miles away after the modification.

FM Tuner not receiving - Yamaha R7 receiver

Take the cover off and look at the cable that connects the tuner to the main board. Make sure it is connected straight and tight. Make sure all screws in the back are tight, just in case it is a grounding issue. Iff all checks out and you still have issues, replace your tuner.

How do I preset the tuner for radio stations. I've never had a problem doing this with any other stereo. But what I think should work isn't!

Not very specific. Do you have the manual?

The following is from a VSX-03TXH manual. It ain't pretty but it may help.

I'm posting it in multiple parts due to space contraints.

Chapter 6:

Using the tuner

Listening to the radio

The following steps show you how to tune in to FM and

AM radio broadcasts using the automatic (search) and

manual (step) tuning functions. If you already know the

frequency of the station you want, see Tuning directly to a

station below. Once you are tuned to a station you can

memorize the frequency for recall later-see Saving

station presets below for more on how to do this.

1 Press the FM/AM button to select the tuner.

2 Use the FM/AM button to change the band (FM or

AM), if necessary.

Each press switches the band between FM and AM.

3 Tune to a station.

There are three ways to do this:

Automatic tuning

To search for stations in the currently selected band,

press and hold TUNE ?©/?? for about a second. The

receiver will start searching for the next station,

stopping when it has found one. Repeat to search for

other stations.

Manual tuning

To change the frequency one step at a time, press

TUNE ?©/??.

High speed tuning

Press and hold TUNE ?©/?? for high speed tuning.

Release the button at the frequency you want.

Improving FM stereo sound

If the TUNED or STEREO indicators don't light when

tuning to an FM station because the signal is weak, press

the MPX button to switch the receiver into mono

reception mode. This should improve the sound quality

and allow you to enjoy the broadcast.

Using Neural THX

This feature uses Neural Surround™, THX® technology to

achieve optimal surround sound from FM radio.

• While listening to FM radio, press AUTO/DIRECT for
Neural THX listening.

My Grundig Satellit 700 Radio is not working on FM Band but is working well on AM and Shortwave Band. After pressing ON/OFF button and FM/RDS-AF button when we try to operate the FM Band of this radio...

The most common problem for no FM is the failure of component F1 IF transformer. One of the windings on the transformer opens, so you have either no input, or a very low level input to the FM mixer. You need to obtain a copy of the Satellit 700 service manual, and then find F1 in the schematics. You can check the windings with a simple ohm meter to verify if one of the windings is open or not.
If F1 is defective, and I have seen many 700's with this fault, you need to replace it with an adjustable 10.7 MHz IF Transformer in a 7mm can configuration.
I found a replacement 7 mm 10.7 MHz IF Transformer at Talon Electronics. Their part number for it is IND2134, and it costs a whopping $0.80. Here is a link:

Frequency increases/decreases in steps of 0.2 kHz

Hi again, Seems you posted twice. A copy of my reply to your other post.... Assuming no hardware fault to the radio, tuning steps may be adjusted by: 1. With the radio switched off, press the Step/Band button for about 2 seconds. This will display the current FM tuning step (200Khz as in your case); 2. With the radio switched off, press the Step/Band button for about 10 seconds. This will display FM and a blinking 50Khz with a single beep sound. By rotating the Tuning Control you can increase or decrease this value. 3. pressing the Step/Band button again will move you to the tuning increments of the AM band again adjustable via the Tuning Control. 4. pressing the Step/Band button again will save the setting and complete the process. Hope this be of some help. Good luck and kind regards.
