Receiver was beeping all the time. I changed batteries in receiver, and now remote does not control fireplace. Remote appears to be working fine. If I move switch to on instead of remote on receiver, it...

If you changed the batteries in the receiver (the black box in the fireplace). You should also change the 2-batteries in the hand-held remote. This may sound stupid, but it's not ... be sure all the batteries in the receiver (black box) are all facing the proper direction. Believe me, it's easy to get one turned the wrong direction. Also, make sure that the slide switch is in fact in the remote position. It can be finicky at times. Also, check to make sure that the two wires are still connected firmly at the gas fireplace Control Valve and in the receiver.

  • Now, if all of that doesn't solve your problem, the receiver may have lost it's code..
When matching security codes, be sure slide button on the receiver is in the REMOTE position; the code will NOT "LEARN" if the slide switch
is in the ON or OFF position. Program the remote receiver to LEARN a new security code by pushing in the LEARN button on the top of the
remote receiver and then pressing the MODE button on the transmitter. A change in the beeping pattern, at the receiver, indicates the
transmitter's code has been programmed into the receiver.

There's a lot to check out and do, but that's how you trouble shoot these remotes.

My remote control has broken. I am getting no response although I have changed the batteries

There are two possibilities for failure; the remote itself and the receiver in the recorder.
Many service shops have a simple device that will reveal if the remote is putting out any signal at all. If it does, the output is probably correct; they don't often fail by screwing up the coded infra-red signal.
If the remote seems to be working, then your problem lies with the receiving end inside the recorder.

Onkyo TX-SR702 remote problem

So what you're saying is you think the receiver is broken because the remote won't turn it on.

Try fresh batteries or another remote that can be programmed for the Onkyo and get back to us.
