Sounds like your monitor has bad capacitors. When a monitor begins to overheat the capacitors may begin to burst or leak which will not do its job to hold electrical current sufficiently and cause the display to become blank.

In standby mode (red led on/after the led stops from blinking), press "Display", "5", Volume (-)", "Power on" on the remote control in sequence, self diagnostic screen will be display, let me know the what is on the screen to diagnose where the fault came from.
Yes....this blinking code is a diagnostic fault code which is a good thing, you count the number of blinks and it tells you where the problem is.....you also can see it by pressing the buttons, DISPLAY,CHANNEL,5,volume - not + ,then power....In your case it blinks 5 times, its in the video out,you need a desoldering iron, solder, rosin core 60%tin and 40%lead...remove and replace these,Q761,Q705,Q732 on the C board also Q218,Q219,Q220 on the A board.hope this helps.......
Five blinks is a video abnormality detection and I am all too familiar with this repair... One or more of the crt's in this unit has a bad set or failing guns in it... You can have a local tech bring out a crt tester and rejuvenate the tube for a temporary stay but it will eventually fail for good and in a short period of time it will be one or the other - - VERY expensive to repair or off to the dump...

UN-PLUG THE TV. WHILE THE POWER IS OFF HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON ON THE TV FOR 1 FULL MINUTE. PLUG IN THE TV AND PRESS THE POWER BUTTON. THIS WORKED FOR ME, THIS PROCESS IS NOT CHANGING ANY INTERNAL SETTING. IT IS RESETTING THE POWER ON SETTINGS.
I'm suprised with nine blimks the set will turn on at all. You are in the service menu; be careful, you can render the set totally unusable if you change something. Try unplugging the set for a few minutes and plug back in.
