This is probably due to a poor antenna connection. Assuming this is the factory radio, you will want to check the connector in the rear cargo area (drivers side pillar).

How do i fix faulty dab radio

If your signal keeps breaking up , you might be in a poor reception area , Check if you get the same problem on other DAB stations you are tuned into.

I got a 91 chevy pick up with a cilfford, the radio works but hardly any sound comes out of speakers. I got a new radio and its the same. All speakers play buy sound is very low. I was told it was do to...

posted 6 times.
run new wires from new radio to speakers
or bench test your radio (easy) with your speakers.
if still low the speakers are bad or just dirt cheap , car speakers.
try new speakers, if weak now the wires are bad, try new wires
id still weak the radio is bad. (or just a cheap radio)
and define weak, to me most radios are way too load.
but to others, all are weak until 1000watt amp is added.
weak is a relative term. as is hardly any.
do not quote persons guessing, its just a wild guess. they can see car either, do the tests your self and find TRUTH.

to bench test, (modern way)
1: 12vdc 1amp power pack, or battery 12v. and ground.
2: connect up USB mem,. with some mp3s. on stick.
3: connect one good speaker (KNOWN GOOD)
to one of 4 speaker lines. (2 wires)
4: push play, does it sound good, yes, move to next speaker port.
ok , the radio is good. so
try it in the car, is it now low volumn
yes, then move that test speaker to the car speaker that is low.
still low, yes, then the wiring is bad.

easy huh?,,, takes only , a test speaker.

if no usb use, cassette, if no that , use CDDA disk( store bought real)
if none of that us the radio to test. connect a test antenna.
tune in Am or fm. bam.

Radio + CD player works, no sound

Check you antenna wiring. If you have a weak signal the mast may be loose or the mount can be too. Check for corrosion between the body and the mounting area as well

Radio has no sound

Hello, I've the same problem... however my sound is likely there when I restart the X5 after an hour or so, but it is as likely to disappear during the minutes that follow, often when the car is shaken.

There is then a fair chance to get sound back as soon I drop the phone after a phone call (but it does not always work).

--> My guess is that it is the line of the Phone "mute" signal that brings every sound source down thru a bad contact or so.

BMW wanted to replace the radio for 900 €. Hmm a lot of money for a bad conatct if my guess is right.
