the door to my washer is locked since it is in the pause mode.  what should i do?

  • Anonymous Oct 31, 2007

We will try that.  Thank you :-)

  • Anonymous Oct 31, 2007

Is there a reset code for my washer?

  • Anonymous Oct 31, 2007

The reason I think that my pause button is stuck is because when I turn the machine on, the lights blink & when I try and hit the "pause/cancel? button it shuts the machine off rather than pausing.

Please tell me what the correct part name is for the "door switch".  I will go ahead and order it.

This sounds like a broken door switch. Open the door and look on the right side of the cabinet where the door latch goes in. About 4-5 inches above that there should be a small actuator that sticks out about a quarter inch. You should be able to press it in and out easily. If you only have a hole with nothing sticking out, the actuator is broken. You can break off a round toothpick and insert it in the hole, leaving about a quarter inch sticking out and gently close the door and see if the machine starts up.
Post back and let me know what you find.

Remove the lower front panel from the washer and reach up to the bottom of the door latch and you will feel the latch release hanging from the bottom of the latch. Pull on it and it should unlatch the door so you can open it.

There is not a reset code. There is a diagnostic cycle you can run it through. I will look up the squence but I don't think it is going to help. The reason I think the door switch has failed is that nothing will work if the board doesn't sense that the door is closed, it will just blink the panel lights when you press start.

If the washer is not in a cycle it won't pause, it will just turn off.

If you have the lower panel off you should see the tech sheet that will give you the diagnostic checks.

    Close the door

    Press control on

    Select drain/spin

Select no spin by pressing the spin select button

Push prewash button 4 times within 5 seconds  C:00 will appear in display

If your washer doesn't have prewash button use rinse/hold button

This puts washer into diagnostic cycle. It will actuate every component of the washer and check for failures. I don't think it is going to help with your problem since you have no codes displayed but it won't hurt to try it.

It is the door latch. The switch and latch are all one piece.

Were you able to get the door open?

  • Anonymous Oct 31, 2007

If the door strike is not broken I would not order it. I think the part number is 8182634 for the latch assembly. If you have gotten the door open so you can post the complete model number I will look it up and make sure.

    Thanks for the numbers.

Yes, what I called the latch is what is the doorlock in the parts diagram. The part number I gave you should be correct.

Was the small actuator I described broken? If not we may need to do some checking, but you have already replaced the controls so there isn't much left anyway.

Do you need to know how to replace the latch once you have it?

It is not hard, just a little aggrevating sometimes.

Remove the wire clamp that holds the rubber boot to the front panel of the machine around the door hole.

Pull the rubber boot off the right side so you can get to the latch.

Remove the three screws that hold the latch to the cabinet.

The latch is held in place by a plastic bracket, slide it up and out of the bracket and you can move it to the opening to remove the wire connectors.

Install the new latch in reverse order.

The thing to remember is to get the boot properly back into position over the lip of the opening.

The aggrevating part is putting the wire clamp back on.

I start it at the top and stretch it back on going down both sides at the same time. If you try to run it down one side you will pull the boot off the other side. It takes tough fingers to get it back on as it doesn't stretch easily.

I can change a latch in about 15 minutes, but I have done several of them.

If you need more help just post back.

Whirlpool duet ht.... Door will not unlock, cancel button turns machine off. will not start, unlock button does nothing. clothes stuck inside, not sure if there is water inside or not, but will not drain...

Hello there and thank you for chosing fixya
Here is a few things to check before you do a manual opening of the door
You may have already done these steps but please try this again in this order ok?

Check to see if the "Add a Garment" light is lit on the Duet's display. The light will only be on during the first eight minutes of a washer cycle, when the function is usable.
Press the "Pause/Cancel" button once to pause the washing cycle and unlock the door.Press the Press the "Pause/Cancel" button twice to cancel the wash cycle if the "Add a Garment" light is not illuminated. THIS IS A BIGGIE HERE (Wait for the water to drain. The door unlocks once enough water has drained to enable you to safely open the washer door NOW IF THESE STILL DO NOT WORK THEN HERE IS HOW TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DOOR
Remove the three screws securing the lower toe panel to the washing machine. The lower toe panel is the small rectangular panel underneath the washer's front door. Pull the panel off the washer once the three screws are removed.Reach up into the front panel of the washer. Feel for the teardrop-shaped tab in the washer's door latch assembly.Pull down on the tab until you hear a click. The click is the sound of the door unlocking.

My whirlpool washer will not start. It is in control lock mode for the last load of clothes that I wash

This is a very common issue. On the far right of the control panel their is a button "End Of Cycle" press it for 3 seconds to unlock the control.

If that does not fix it the user interface control board would need to be replaced. I can explain how to do this but think holding the button down will fix your washer issue.

Washer is stuck in "control locked mode" and won't start. It's normally in door locked mode. Whirlpool duet

The Control Lock is a safety feature that enables the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent children from manipulating the controls and accidentally starting the appliance.

With the lock on, the control panel is disabled and you cannot use any of the controls, except the button to unlock it. It can inadvertently be set following a power outage, leaning against the control panel, or pressing and holding the wrong button. This is usually not an indication of a malfunction.

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured appliance (such as Kenmore Elite, Maytag Epic or Whirlpool Duet), the following link explains how to lock/unlock this feature:

These instructions are also printed on the front panel of the appliance and in the owner's manual.

If this does not correct your problem, then you may have a more serious problem other than a simple operator control button issue (such as an operator console problem or main control board issue). Please post back and let me know if you need further assistance. .

GHW9100LQ1 machine stuck in control lock mode

Press and hold the "END OF CYCLE SIGNAL" button for three seconds and it will unlock the control panel. At least, I think that is the button for the Whirlpool Duet. If you look closely at the front panel, it will clearly state "Press and Hold for 3 Seconds to Lock" on one of the panel buttons (should be all the way to the RIGHT HAND SIDE). This button is designed as a safety feature to prevent small children from being able to operate the washer and inadverntenty getting locked inside the unit. If holding the button fails, unplug the washer for at least 30 minutes to reset the computer. I hope this helps.

My whirlpool duet is giving me a dl error or F11. The door will not unlock and my clothes are stuck in the washer.

F11 is a communications error between the main control board and the motor control board. You can first try to unplug the washer for a few minutes. Plug it back in and see if it will reset. If not one of the two control boards may be bad. Another thing you can try is to unplug all the wiring harnesses on both boards and plug them back in. It could just be a loose harness. The main control board is under the top panel in the back. The motor control board is behind the bottom panel on the left.

Pause mode stuck

Is the door firmly closed? Open the door and close it firmly. If the pause button is really stuck, you will need to repair/replace the board.
