If you turn the unit off, wait about ten seconds and turn it back on, yes, it should go back to the "Enter PIN" screen. If, however, you turn it off then immediately turn it back on it will continue to tell you to return to the security location.
If you can't remember your password, take it back to your security
location and it will unlock itself. You can then change the password to
something you'll remember. If it won't unlock at the security location, send it to Garmin with the original receipt and they'll reset it.
Sometimes this happen to me when I fumble the PIN entry. I have to switch it off and then re-start and enter the PIN more carefully. When choosing a secret unlock location, choose somewhere other than your home - it can be nearby but noe AT home. This is case a thief finds where you live and takes the nuvi there as most people make Home the Unlock Location.
The first thing you have to do is enter the correct PIN or take the unit to the location at which the PIN was set. It will now unlock. You can then press the icon that looks like a wrench, and look for an icon that says Garmin Lock (it is in different places on the different units, and I forgot exactly where it is on the 660, sorry.) You can then change the security code from there. If you are trying to unlock the unit without the PIN number, you will be unable to do so without taking the unit to the security location. In that case, your only option is to send the unit to Garmin.
If you forgot your PIN, all you have to do is go to the physical location where you originally set your PIN and turn the unit on (make sure antenna is up). It will not ask for a PIN and you will be then able to change the PIN to whatever you like.
