If we close the screen a little bit it goes bright white. Have to switch off and restart. Also, after doing a power point presentation the display is only opening about 80% of full screen with a black strip down the right hand side and 1/2 inch grey at the bottom. How do we display the screen to be 100%? Thanks We still have only 80% screen with black screen to the right Anyone else encounter this problem after a powerpoint Presentation and conecting to a projector?

    Hi,

Wish it was that simple. The resolution is on the correct setting 1024x768. It seems to have happened after we did a powerpoint presentation and had connected to a projector. Any other suggestions? Thanks again Michelle

No it is complete. Nothing missing. Not out of shape. Just short. Won't open up full screen.

In LCD screens is a common problem that after setting a lower resolution than recommended you'll see a black stripe sometimes up and right, right click on any empty spot on your desktop and select properties then go to display options and move the resolution bar to a higher point and click apply also click yes in the warning display and accept.

Regards.

Does your desktop appear chopped like it has a part missing?

  • Anonymous Jun 16, 2009

Try making a change in desktop them, like changing it to silver so the screen gets a re-arrange signal. let me know how that goes.

    Regards.

What causes laptos to not show display despite showing that they have switched on?

Step 1:
The display on your laptop is the interface through which you interact with and control your computer. If it is not working, your laptop will become virtually impossible to use. A laptop is a computer, and like all computers is subject to both hardware and software problems that may affect the display. Before taking your laptop in for repair or getting rid of it, you should first check the display yourself to see if it needs to be replaced.

Check the laptop's battery and power cord. If the laptop is out of power, the display will not work. This usually happens if the power cord is unplugged and you were unknowingly running your laptop on battery power. Check to make sure the power cord is plugged in and that the laptop has power. Many laptops also turn off the display if it is being powered by its battery after a period of nonuse. Touching any key will usually turn the display back on if the battery is not drained. Restart your computer. If a software program is stuck or malfunctioning, it may cause your display to stop functioning. Press and hold the "Power" button on your laptop to reboot your computer. If the problem was a malfunctioning program, the display will turn on after the computer restarts. Check the brightness level of the display. If the level is too low, the screen will appear dark. The brightness controls are usually located on two function keys, such as "F9" and "F10." Look for sun or light icons on the keys. Press the key with the larger icon to increase the brightness level. Alternatively, on some laptops hold the "Fn" key while simultaneously pressing the "Up Arrow" key to increase the screen brightness. Check the display closed switch. Many laptops have a small button that senses when the LCD screen is closed and puts the laptop in sleep or hibernation mode. If the switch gets clogged with dirt, it may get stuck in the closed position. This will result in dark display even when the lid is open. The switch is usually located near the hinges of the lid. Spray the switch with a can of compressed air to loosen the dirt so that it will resume its normal operation. Plug an external monitor into your laptop. If the problem is not software related, the external monitor will display the laptop's screen. Connect the monitor by plugging the cable into the VGA, HDMI or DVI port on the laptop. Press and hold the "Fn" key while simultaneously pressing the "F8" key. The video output will be directed to the external monitor if there is a hardware problem.

I have lenovo g550...my screen flickers in every 5minutes...

Failing Inverter An inverter, typically found inside a laptop computer, consists of a small board, which has impregnated electronic circuits stamped on it. Inverters look like thin boards about the of two sticks of chewing gum. The inverter and its bulb control the intensity of the liquid crystal display, which lights the screen monitor. The computer can control the output voltage of the inverter and either lighten or darken the screen. A special type of inverter can adjust the brightness of the screen by using an internal sensor to judge the room brightness, and then adjust the screen accordingly. Failing inverters give off some specific warning signs, which can be recognized by observing different screen characteristics.

Short Intermittent Display Upon turning on the laptop, the screen flashes on in the normal mode for a short period and then blinks to black. A very faint image appears in a dark background, which will be very hard to see almost invisible. After shutting off the laptop and restarting, the same mode occurs, where the screen appears normal for a few seconds then fades to black. This condition points to a failed inverter. To confirm this, plug in an operational external monitor; if the external monitor functions, the inverter has failed. b> Total Blackout with Ghost image b> The laptop turns on, as indicated by the power supply button, but the screen comes up black. The screen comes up black after restart. You might be able to detect a very dim or ghost-like image on the monitor. When you plug in a known functioning external monitor, the external monitor operates normally. This mode of display indicates a failed inverter. b> Long Term Periodic Operation b> With this failure mode, the laptop screen illuminates normally upon start-up and remains that way after several minutes, hours or even days, until it goes very dark again. Brightness controls or restoration attempts do not work. Most often, the screen will function normally with a computer restart, but will eventually return to black. Faint ghost images might appear, as seen in the total blackout mode. b> Dark With Color Variation b> Upon computer start-up, the monitor shows black or dark gray, accompanied by very faint images. The screen might have an intermittent color change, or remain on with a non-standard color variation, like pink or red. b> Auto Control Switch b> If the screen appears black, with no faint or ghost images, look for the lid switch near the back hinge. The switch, when depressed with a closed lid, shuts off the computer and monitor functions. Sometimes the switch becomes stuck in the closed position, disallowing the computer and monitor to turn on when opened. Pushing the switch manually several times can often free it up. If the switch tab has broken or jammed inside the case, it needs replacing. b> Loose Connection In this mode, the display looks normal upon start-up, but tapping the side case of the computer turns the screen black. More tapping results in the screen functioning normally then cutting out again. This condition points to a loose wire connection from the inverter to the LCD backlight lamp, or the video cable. The connectors can be accessed by removing the monitor bezel screws and pulling the plastic retainer off. Both connectors can be cleaned and refitted.

Vostro 1520 screen goes blank if cover is opened more than 1/4 of the way

There's a sensor (LCD Lid Close Control Switch) that has gone bad. The sensor controls when the display is shown or not shown based on the position of the lcd lid.

The panel initially displays and then goes blank

johnerm, Good going John! At least YOU tried doing a swapout to another KNOWN GOOD pc to prove out that the E153FP is indeed the culprit!!! Now for the hard part. Do you have a bright flashlight? Reconnect E153FP to pc with WIN-desktop as the displayed image. then and only then turn on E153FP and note the time it takes to GO TO BLACK SCREEN. Is it 1, 2, --5,---20 seconds???? Now point at different angels about 1 inch from screen a bright flashlight to an area that "should" have a desktop "icon" showing. LOOK very closely!! If you SEE a very faint image of the desktop the units "switch-mode-power-supply" is in PARTIAL SHUTDOWN mode. (still has +5v or +3.3v to supply vga/lcd interface board) If you SEE NOTHING, then SMPS is in FULL SHUTDOWN mode. Get back to me, 12fixlouie with your SMPS flashlight evaluation and pay a visit to YOUTUBE fyi search and view video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair" to see if DIY interests you!
