2008 PC, shows it has modem too, a dial up. so 3 ways internet.
\there are 2 ways on to the internet (Ethernet and wifi)
aka, wired and wireless, respectively.
sure wifi router works, too, and is more difficult to setup. (im not going there)
try a new cable
try another router port yet, try cycling power only to the router?
sounds like your vista drivers are messed up ,
if another PC works , with ETHERNET cable to router there.then the router is working, test 1, passes.
that means
this PC is failing
the PC has a control panel and device manager
see that and the network part? (not wifi , the wired network chip)]
vista 32b or vista 64bit?
your PC came with intel old
-
Interface: Integrated into motherboard
- Technology: Intel 82562V
- Data transfer speeds: up to 10/100Mb/s
- Transmission standards:10-Base-T Ethernet
the driver is?
Intel 82562V
to make that chip work,
intel has it. 6 th down this list, Vista
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/76951/Intel-82562-Fast-Ethernet-Controller
load this driver. fixed. (from a working PC on the net)
then move it to dead pc and load it.
you are plugged in to X here. right.
or is there a card plugged in on the right, with RJ45 ethernet jack.
yes, you sure can add a new Ethernet card if the X jack blows out.
my DM ethernet port, im tying through it now...
mines a w10 gigalan port. so... is not intel like yours. ignore Realtek name pretend it says, Intel 82562V
