Christy, Above is an excellent link to help you figure out the problem. I assume it was used when you bought it. It may even have spyware and virus issues if you bought it used. If you can't resolve it you might try formatting the hard drive and starting fresh with a new system install.

Toshiba laptops are notorious for coming with a bunch of useless software installed that will no doubt slow your machine... thats just my two cents...
Anyway, add to that, running Windows Vista, Anti-Virus software, and it only comes factory with 512mb of system memory, and you will have one slow running computer.
First thing I would suggest, is getting a system ram upgrade. It should support DDR2 and have two memory slots. DDR2 right now is fairly cheap. I would go for two 1gb sticks for a total of 2gb of ram.
If you aren't savvy about tackling this yourself, take it by your local computer shop or parts super store and get the ram upgrade, 2 gigabytes total. You will prob be alot happier with it's performance.
