Error #6 is the disk can not be read because it is upside down. If you are getting this error and the disk is in fact right side up you have other problems with the unit such as the Read Write Head is dirty or damaged. Possible that something got in there inserting and removing a disk. You have to remember the small size of the working components here does not require much to muck up the whole system. If this happens with all the disks you try make sure they are clean and devoid of surface damage as scratches will make it impossible to read. Remember this is an optical drive so Fingerprints and Scratches are not part of the language these things read. If it is just the same disk, get a different one. As I've had happen to me that code ended up being a trip to buy a new unit on sale with free installation as it died. But that is what the code means.
Hey there,
The problem is a read error. This means either a misaligned or dirty laser head.
The fix involves taking your ps2 apart, so it's up to you if you feel up to it!
Here's a fantastic step by step guide:

Good luck man.
Your PS2 lens is displaced from its original position that is what scratching your Discs and makes weird noises too. There can possibly be another reason for them ,your PS2's reading lens is dirty and it is covered by a layer of dust that scratches your Discs and makes sounds too. You should first clean the lens of your PS2 watch this video to know how to clean your PS2's lens:
Disk read errors are mainly due to dirty or worn out lens,so clean your PS2's lens to get rid of this problem and as for that sound that will get fixed by cleaning lens if still it makes that sound then you will have to take your PS2 to repairer to set the lens height. Thank you!
I had the same problem with mine. it would play the ps2 games just fine but when i put a DVD in, it would click and keep saying reading disc.. i took it apart and gently cleaned the lense with a qtip and now it works fine
There a two lasers in a PS2 one reads DVDs and white game discs and the other reads CDs and blue game disc. Sounds like your blue one is broken I'm afraid
I would try a lens cleaning disk and see if that helps. Oftentimes if there's just a little smudge on the lens it can keep certain games from playing while others work perfectly. It's been a while since i used one bought i've bought them from Best Buy and Staples in the past.
Hi you will probably get constant disk errors because it is not the best console you can get. The older versions are now stopped being prossesed. My best bet is to get some rubbing alcohol. The spray doesnt really make an effect but will also make an effect.Im not sure what the effect is but your bets bet is to get rubbing alcohol.
If you have any further questions please ask me.
Thank you.
You said the model is 77001?? is that the slim type ps2?? if it is try this troubleshooting step
if the console is lying down flat where the disc lid is at the right side, try applying pressure on the lower right corner of the lid, sometimes the lid's safety button gets worn out and it will give you disc read error if this solves the problem then the button really is busted, if you have technical background you try and change the button
To fix this problem, you will need to open your PS2 and re-adjust its lens. To open your PS2, first turn it upside down. Remove the 4 rubber feet and 6 square tabs (circled in the picture) by sliding a flat screwdriver (or something similar) underneath them.
