Extra hello iv got a acer travelmate 4730, after when o turn it on it turns off 10 seconds later with also no display, whats the problem? i had a prob like this a year ago with a hp laptop and i fixed it by keeping in power lead and taken out battery then the other way around for a few days then it worked, so should i do that with the acer?

Are you comfortable with playing around in the BIOS? You should find it under the boot sequence options. BIOSes tend to be a little different from machine to machine so I cant really point you in a specific direction. Maybe someone else has more familiarity with this model.

You will need to turn your travelmate upside down and remove the ***** from the hard drive panel or Ram cover...try both.You will see a small battery(cmos battery). If you can see where it is plugged in and can reach it,unplug it for about 10 seconds and plug back in then put your covers back.That should reset your bios so you dont need a password.You can go back in your bios at a later time and set a new password if you wish :)

Hold down the function key (Fn) then press the F7 key. This is keyboard shortcut to toggle on and off the touchpad.

Press and hold the "Fn" key and press one of the alternate keys.

If it's cutting out, I'd suggest getting a replacement to make sure it's not a problem with the laptops motherboard. You can obtain a new one directly from Acer (if you feel capable of fitting it yourself, otherwise they'll be happy to have you send the laptop to them and they do it for you - though they will charge extra for this).
