Hello there,
First of all, i will say you should try another USB cable in connecting the hard drive to your computer. Or you try to connect it to another computer. This time, ensure you try to use a 7.0 USB cable.
Sometimes the cable might be bad and will just connect but not read you hard drive. It happened to a modem of mine. Until i changed the USB cable was when the computer was able to read the modem.
Hope the hard drive did not fall or hit any hard object.
Hope this helped.
Goodluck

Hi there,
These are the minimum system requirements of the flash drive you bought.
• Computer with a USB port
• Latest version of Windows XP, Windows Vista®
, Windows 7
• Mac®
OS X 10.4, 10.5, 10.6
• Minimum free disk space: 600MB recommended
Any way back to the question, there is a protective plastic clip for the gold contacts have you tried removing it before using, it might be the reason you cant stick it to any USB port. Any way don't lost the cap so it can lessen dirt on the gold contacts.
Hopefully this information helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.
When you switch on your computer press the F12 key that should take you to the boot screen , scroll down to the usb drive and press enter it should boot up to that .
If you have a windows computer, attempt to format it in the drive options (Control panel > System And Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management, then right-click the drive, format into FAT 32) Otherwise, use disk utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities) to format it on mac (I don't have a mac right in front of me, but from what I'm reading, it seems to be a straightforward process)
Hello my friend, regarding on your problem the contents of your hard-drive is safe no need to worry cause the data is still there. Unless the hard-drive itself is corrupted that's the time your data will lost. To make it safe, you can retrieve the content of your hard-drive either if you have tools and skills in fixing hard-disk then youn open it and manually attach the hard-drive to your computer using the appropriate conector you have or you can find a technician in your place to fix and scan your hard-drive and to help you evaluate the main reason of your problem and also to save the contents of your hard-drive.
Hope this information helps you if you need more assistance then just post some reply in here.
First check the LaCie power supply. I have a D2 HARD DISK EXTREME 250GB model 300770 that had this exact problem. I swapped out the power supply for the higher wattage unit from LaCie and presto, the drive functioned properly. Not saying this will fix your problem but I have personally had this exact problem. If not take the drive and mount it in a PC IDE/EIDE disk slot and see if you can mount the drive and recover your data (points to LaCie controller problem). Note opening the drive invalidates your LaCie warranty. Also note the warranty on my drive was one years and had long since passed. If that does not work, your last alternative it to use a disk data recovery service but that is big $$$$s. Bon Chance!
