The battery cover on the back of the phone protects the battery.
Removing the battery cover
1. Hold the phone firmly and locate the Cover Release Latch.
2. Firmly "pop" the cover off the phone.

Align the cover and press it into place, making sure it snaps securely.

Instructions

1. • 1Put the screwdriver into the screw hole in the small panel on the back of the Leapster. Remove the screw, and open the panel.
   • 2 Remove the batteries from the Leapster and discard them. Find the small "reset" button behind the panel cover. The reset button should be black or red
     
   • 3 Press the reset button with the pointed object. Hold the button down for about three to five seconds.
     
   • 4 Put fresh batteries into the battery chamber. Make sure the flat side of each battery connects with the springs in each battery channel. Screw the panel cover back into place.
     
   • 5 Press the Leapster's "on/off" button. When the Leapster comes on, enter the country information and the player's name.
     
   • 6 Press the "hint" button, which opens a pop-up help menu. Press the "A" button. Use the stylus to touch the center of the small crosshairs on the screen to calibrate the touch screen.

1.Check the device's battery level for at least two bars of strength.
2.If the battery level is low, charge the battery.
3.If the issue is not resolved, remove the back cover.
4.Remove the battery.
5.Wait 10 seconds.
6.Press and hold the W key.
7.While pressing down the W key, re-insert the battery.
•The device restarts and after approximately 15 seconds, the 'Recovery' screen appears
•Release the power button but *continue holding the home button*, for another 30 seconds.

try a hard reset i tell u how:

1.press and hold the reset button
2. dont let go yet! push the power slider down at the same time
3. let go of the reset button, wait a few seconds then let go of power slider and it should work

else u may need 2 get a new phone or try a firmware upgrade

You may have to do a major reset on it. First remove and replace the battery and turn it on again. If that doesn't fix it, there is a tiny reset button on the bottom near the connector. You will need to push it in with a small point such as a paper clip wire.

Are you looking for the Trouble Reset Button? It is behind the top back cover on the Controler PCB, it is a Small BLACK button... Good Luck What code are you resetting?

ok one last shot i can think of is if you take the back cover off remove the battery and the sim card. if there is a reset button it should be there. that is all i can think of. one other thing is did she maybe hit the keypad lock by accident?
