Are you referring to the HotKeys program? If so, download the newest version from Toshiba's site and you should be good to go.

For your dim screen, check the settings in the Power Utility for Battery power and make sure the brightness is cranked up. Other than that, a new battery would fix the issue.

Hi Leonard Fazio,
Have you tried going into Safe mode and the settings, control , uninstall programs - select show updates and then remove last update.
another way is to select system restore while in safe mode and restore to an earlier version depends on what o/s you have. Search for it in control panel or settings. While in Safe mode.

How to start computer when its in safe mode?

Once the tablet boots into Safe Mode, does it give any option to boot in normal mode after a restart? Can you enter Administrative Tools and view error logs? Make note of items marked with a Red symbol as they will indicate system failures. This will allow further troubleshooting.

0x8007045d error the request could not be preformed because of an I/O device error

I'd suggest you to connect your external hard drive to a different USB port and try copying and check if that fixes the issue.

Also, boot into safe mode and try copying the same and check if you can successfully complete the copy operation without any errors.

Refer the below link for more details on how to start computer in safe mode:

Start your computer in safe mode

If you're able to successfully copy the file in safe mode, it indicates that one of the third party application or start up item is causing the error.

You could put your system in clean boot state and check if any third party application or any services is causing the issue and hence the error.

Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. If yes, you may go ahead and disable or uninstall the same.

Follow the below steps to put your computer in clean boot state:

1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
2. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
5. Click OK, and then click Restart.

Once the system is in clean boot state, try to copy the files and check if you're able to copy files without any errors.

Refer the link below for more details:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

1. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.
3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

MD-40954 PC Notebook: what is the hotkey for getting into safe mode of w...

Restart the lappy & keep pressing F8. this will get you to the page with the options for safemode

Will not open, then can't turn off

Try starting the PC in "safe mode (with network support) " by tapping the F8 key whilst it boots up and selecting safe mode from the menu. (Which bypasses your start-up items) If this boots up ok then the problem is a program that is starting up with windows, Check the start menu / programs / startup for any programs and remove them.
You can then downlaod a free program called "Spybot search and destroy" - run it, select "mode / advanced" - Tools - Startup and remove the offending item!

Safe mode

Hi there, Try tapping F8 on boot to access the boot menu select "start windows normal". if it will not let you boot in to safemode with cmd promt and run "chkdsk /f" to check for bad sectors and repair othere HD issues. Also try "Last known Configuration" as a last ditch effort before moving on to System restore. IF system restore options fail to work let me know and we can do a system restore and restore your system to an earlier time through the cmd prompt. Good luck and i hope this helps
