What is happening is your map updates are being copied onto your memory card without overwriting the old maps hence you are running out of memory.

In the tomtom home browser you should be able to delete your old map before installing the new one. Make sure you have a back up of the map card before you try this though so you can reinstall if something goes wrong.

Also have you replaced the voice prompts on your tomtom? The voice files take up a lot of memory so if you have put new ones one without removing the old ones you will be wasting memory.

There is one window in TThome that lists eveything installed on yuor card so have a good look at this and see what you can get rid of.

Tomtomcom getstarted

The VIA models act as servers and the map doesnt actually download to your computer. It uploads itself to tomtom servers, gets rewritten and then downloaded back on to the tomtom unit. They have done this to prevent map illegal copying, sharing

When I turn on my TomTom it says no maps avaible. When I go to load the canada usa maps I just bought it says not enough memory. How can I reset my Tom Tom back to the maps it had.

Since you have just bought it, you are eligible for a new map (within 30 days of purchase). Please update the map as early as possible. Please follow the steps mentioned below:
Tom do not seem to overwrite the existing map file. So before trying to install the map, you need to delete the folder that contains the map. (It is important to read the next part before you delete the map folder). Once you have connected your TomTom to thecomputer, close the TomTom home window. Double click on my computer. You will see the TomTom hard drive as a drive (like you see the CD drive). Double click on that . Once the folders of the TomTom hard drive opens, look for a folder named USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P. (Please note: this name is for American continent. For others, this name will be different). Right click on it. click properties. Check whether the size of this folder is approximately around 1.3 GB to 1.5 GB. This is just to make sure we have the correct folder. After confirming this is the map folder, copy this folder to your computer for back up purpose. Once you have it safely in your computer, delete this folder from the TomTom hardrive. Go back to TomTom home software. Use the map guarantee to update/Upgrade the new map. You will see this time around the installation completes without a problem.

Down loading Europe on my TomTom 1/3

Yes you can I have europe and canada on mine.

just plug your tomtom into your computer and start tomtom home

On the computer screen for tomtom select ADD MAPS

Here you can select and buy the maps you need.

Once you have confirmed the purchase you will be given instructions on how to download etc

Some maps may take a little time to install to the tomtom itself.

you should also ensure there is enough space on your tomtom
If not you will have to get an SD memory card.

I use a 4gb one that still has lots of room to spare

Tom tom Western european map

This problem is due to the memory card not containing the TomTom application or map. To update the application onto the memory card
  • Connect the device to your computer.
  • Open the TomTom Home application.
  • Click on 'Update My Device'.
This should then install the application onto the SD card. Alternativly, you could perform all the steps above without the SD card in the device, this will install the application onto the internal memory. Note: you may also need to install your maps, voices, etc after you updat.

Tom tom one won't down load home automatically

First BACKUP your SD card.
Go here and download latest version of TomTom HOME >> For the PC or for the MAC , You can download tomtom HOME here > http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_uk.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=7408&p_created=1184659653&p_sid=PmvpQQmj&prod_lvl1=&prod_lvl2=&cat_lvl1=&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MjE1LDIxNSZwX3Byb2RzPSZwX2NhdHM9JnBfcHY9JnBfY3Y9JnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9ZG93bmxvYWQgaG9tZQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1

I would recommend you only do a map upgrade if you definatly need to as looking at other posts on this forum lots of people have problems after trying to update maps.
Updating maps is NOT FREE , you have to pay for updates and after downloading updates you need to reactivate the map with your product code . Only do an update after backing up your existing maps other sie you might have trouble reverting back if the download goes wrong.

GOOD LUCK

Tomtom One T Europe version 3

You can back up all your current maps and install North American maps for Florida using TomTom Home. You can switch back to European maps when you get back to the UK as well- I used my TomTom Home to manage my GPS and I find it can be very useful in situations like that

Upload latest western europe map v7.20 to TOMTOM 700 not possible

I have managed to solve the problem of loading a new map on my Go700 using a Mac. I discovered that Tomtom is incompatible with the Leopad operaying system, despite the protestations of the idiots at Tomtom ,so I reverted to an older Mac using Tiger.
Taking the instructions given to crinold, I tried to erase the disc on the 700 using home 1.5 - and it didn't work. So I went to disc utilities, highlighted and erased the Tomtom disc, and opened home 2,5. After being refused entry several times, like being told to load an already loaded device, I persevered, and managed, slowly, to add the map I had bought for 78 euros. T]One point oif interes is that when I bought the map, they site stated it would cost 63 pounds sterling, but switched it to euros when the invoice arrived. at a rate very favourable to Tomtom - funny, that.
This is sharp practice, probably illegal in many countries,, but, to be honest, dealing with the mysterious Tomtom company is so frustrating, that I don't have the time or inclination to fight them for the money they cheated from me.
How they survive with such an awful product and extremely bad after sales service is hard to understand - perhaps they won't ... we live in hope.

Tom tom one xl wont accept SD card with map on

If you have TomTom that have the slot for SD card, then it should accepted the SD card. The instruction for how to use the SD card is simple, but it is hidden in the TomTom Home, that's why it's difficult to find it. Below are the instruction how to use the SD card.

1. Format the SD card (FAT32) and do not stick the SD in the slot yet
2. Run Backup (connect TomTom device to computer)
3. Disconnect TomTom from computer and turn off
4. Slide the SD into the slot and connect TomTom back to computer (choose "yes")
5. In the TomTom Home menu, Choosen Backup & Restore >>> and choosen Restore

TomTom Home will add all applications to the SD card. So the internal memory still have the applications and the SD card also had the same applications. Everytime you slide the card in, TomTom will automatic detect and use it as its primary storage, if it not detect, you can go to the device menu and pick the device to connect to.
Whenver you take the SD card out, then TomTom will use its internal memory.

Hope this helpful
