Hi my scope is working but the picture goes from a normal sight picture to a dull one as if the illuminator is being covered an then uncovered the batteries are new and the illuminator appears to be working as it should if the illuminator is switched off the problem remains the same
Observe the IR illuminator with a digital camera and see if it if fluctuating in output brightness. If that is OK, the problem may be in the HV circuit. They are both easy to fix if the person has some experience.

Hey, the a good probility that it dust. I don't know how ATN seals it NV scopes. But the 50 will shake it to the extreme that it will loosen everything in the scope. Did ATN say it can be used on a BMG 50. How is your nut and screw working hey. stewbison
Hello, is the IR illuninator tube seperate from the ATN Aries rifle scope? If it is, then check the battery, ok. If the battery is ok, then check the polarity of the IR lumin. Make sure the battery is installed properly.
I hope it works, then you can take look see in the dark. Then maybe to can see some widgits. Don't mess with them, they will the smoke out, stewbison
Battery OK, IR light up, no green image on the intensifier image tube, correct! What type of voices are you hearing? Give ATN Aries 390 two Zolof and wait two day, just kidding!!! The noise is a crackling, high freqencey hum, popping, etc. Also remove the eye lens, it screw off, then remove the scope to someplace where it semi dark. Turn it on and observe the 18mm white plate and see if it turn green---no green---no look see---no image intensifier tube, it dead that is the mage tube. stewbison.
At night. You can sight in the 390 during the day in simi-darkness with a day
light lens cover over the front of the scope. (the snap cover has a small hole
in the center for look see during the day) 50 foot room with a target, bench
rest and a rifle vise. You'll also need laser bore sight Figure you rifle
ammunition ballistic and how many yards before it starts to drop. Set the 390
reticle to the red do on the target one or two inch above. Dead center set up
will give you about two hundred yards on center... approx. Now you know this is
a static test or sight in. During night because of some distortion and noise
from the scope. stewbison
Hello - nice looking scope and with 100 % rave reviews.
Not much to adjust really - cover off , battery inserted , turn on - adjust brightness.
IR illuminator on'off.
I've just read through page 5 on user manual - at least they have a 2 yr warrantee and some phone numbers to get support.
Here is user manual / guide + trouble shooting tips.
A simple test is looking at a distant street light - just incase the 'amplifier' is very sensitive.
(that causes BLACK spots) .
If the amp is damaged , they would have a test -- Ray
Hello. you do know that NV devise are to be used during the black hours of the
night. Any type of bright lights will burn out the multi-plate coating. It only
take a few time and the image intensifier tube is gone. The generation 3 and 3+
image tubes have auto gating that is, if the sensor detects bright lights with
shut down. Now, this help but bright light with even the generations of image
tube. It will still destroy them.
To get repaired you can send it to ATN in California. Just for them to take a
look and see what wrong will $100+ plus shipping both ways and the cost of parts
that is, if they have the parts.
What they will try to do, is that they will take your 258 scope in for trade.
Then have you up grade from this 6 year old NV scope to a new model. They could
also tell you it's not repairable.
Now, I have repair a few of the MK ATN NV scopes, and all the image
intensifier tubes are manufactured in Russia, and there is good possibility that
the hole scope was manufactured there.
The Russian manufactures will just print the American Vendor name and logo on
the scope, monocular, binocular that they manufacture. You send to me and I will
take look at and try to find a new image tube for it. drawbridge21.q.com.
you may fine that the tube has broken or there is a fault within the nv unit its self, if its all dark (no picture tube lit up) it could still be the battery box playing you up, iv got the same sight and it give me the same problem it was the batterty box in mine
